Is my agar a goner?
    #19295222 - 12/18/13 09:16 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

So i looked at one of my agar jars and noticed the live culture wasnt in the agar. I didnt notice till then so i gave it a little bump on my leg. It proceeded to go up between the lid and the poly. So i tried to shake it down. My agar broke apart and went all over. But the culture is down in with the mess of agar now.

Is my agar screwed?

It is probably fine. Just not level.

If it made its way to be exposed to the outside through the polyfil then
it will likely contaminate.

If you noticed it coming out is what I mean.

Give it some time and see what happens.

I dont think it was exposed. I put it in my still air box for an hour and spray just to open and view it.

So far first time around and no contams. Im hoping I can do all 10 speces without contams. That would be one hell of an achievement for me:thumbup:

Yeah, just leave it be. The more times you open that business up to look at it
the more likely you are going to contaminate it.

High probability unless you have a flow hood.

Lol oh i see now. No i didnt mean I open it to look at the culture. I meant when I open to check contams and do transfers I go hardcore on spray and stuff.

Theres no point in opening a clear jar to see whats inside lol
