I know I'm being a little cheep, but I found this: presto 6 qt pressure cooker http://www.walmart.com/ip/Presto-6-Quart-Pressure-Cooker-Stainless-Steel/3084 I was wondering if anyone has one or knows enough about it to agree or disagree with my upcoming purchase. Also would it fit those big qt g2g jars?
Thanks guys

I bought a $50 presto very much like the one in the pic. It's only useful if you're going to pc a small amount of pint jars and nothing else. It only goes to 10psi but they don't tell you that on the box. You cannot stand up even a single quart jar in this thing, you can barely squeeze one in sideways. You should get a 22-23 quart presto on ebay(holds 9-10 quart jars- seven upright, 2-3 on the side). I bought one and they work great, but also order a replacement ring right away in case yours develops a leak, like mine did after 2 weeks of use. For the money you can't beat them, you might pay $70 or $80, maybe more.

Hmm, I bought an 8-quart one that fits 3 quart jars upright, and it goes to 15 psi, so says the manual. Bought it in store for about 30.
This one: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Philippe-Richard-8-Quart-Pressure-Cooker-Aluminum/22790095
It gets the job done, but again can only do 3 quarts at a time. It'll also do 4 pints standing upright with 2 laying sideways on top of them.
I'd go with at least an 8-quart.

Holy crap! That's awesome! I didn't even see that one when I was searching, thanks mason!
It's not available in store in my location though. Do you know how the ordering thing works? Can I buy it online and pick it up in store?
And you said you have one right? Did it last long and well? It is aluminum compared to stainless steel, I just hope it doesn't explode or anything haha.

It depends on how many you want to do.
A 10 jar PC is already pretty massive, but it is perfect if you have a lot to sterilize.
On amazon, a Presto that can fit 10qts with a pressure gauge costs ~75 shipped to your door. Pretty worth it.

I bought an 'All American' 21.5 quart pressure cooker, it's built like a tank. I haven't used it enough to recommend it though yet.

Sorry but I think the All Americans are not something to recommend to anyone. I know, Box, you said you don't know if you would recommend it, but i know a lot of people do all the time,. Of course they are probably the best, and worth the money, but for the most part, people aren't making a monotub a week. And if someone doesn't already have a pressure cooker, they are probably still far from experienced and don't need the AA.
If I can pay $30-40 for something that works, that's all I need to do the work I want. I'll just take care of it so I can use it for a while. Maybe in the future with at least a year or two of experience I will upgrade, but for now I'm going to stick to what works without spending a paycheck.
So what I'm trying to say is people should recommend the AA to everyone because it's good. They'll recommend it to themselves once they feel they need it because after a bit of research I know most people already know what an AA is.

Fuck , now that is a deal if you had the money I would have been all over it, if. you should that's the cheapest I have ever heard of brand new, but it is Christmas time and you are running low on funds than I can understand, fuck its no secret on here I am 36 and a few months ago I could hardly bare to shell out 8 bucks for a pack of twenty Petris, I have a good job, but when there is no work and no money coming in, I had more important things to save the money for, so I put up a post saying what can I use on place of Petris, and I got quite a few good ideas, the best idea i got was prob. Condiment cups, I Al'so used dq sundae containers, they worked, just took up to much room and they were a little hard to put together , plus I needed them ASAP as a matter of fact I ended up using some already cont. Petris, as there is no one that I know that sells Petris, around here ! I did that and then got the cond. cups and guess what I have a few clean reishi grains going which I would've lost w/ o makeshift Petris, and honey don't continue. When they hit the edge, I have some that ate 2 months old and they are still going strong! I was even told if I didn't have that type Of money, I should quit the hobbie , boy I am glad I put that post out there! As a matter if fact j just got some new Petris in last week, made up some mya, and am back in business! O know and am sorry I got off topic but when you don't have the cash you don't have the cash, that simple!if you want some pics I got em showing the 2diff. Makeshift Petris,I just wouldn't waste my money on anything cheaper than that presto , unless you can find one cheaper on eBay! Fuck I managed to put a 1500 ml. Wine bottle in mine ( you have to lean it but works) then after it cooled I put and poured forty plates inside a 30 quart tote as a sab ) so don't let someone berate you becuse you don't have the cash, sometimes you just don't! I can hear bs so here see that I know it's blurry but 40 plates and a 1500 ml bottle all becuse of size, and it really isn't to cramped for that bottle making up agar after a little practice and I guess I pulled the one 20 pack out but as to can see plenty of room! Same goes with a PC yo me the more room the less runs= saved money and time in long run!

You definitely don't need and AA, especially if you aren't growing much but if you are really into this hobby and will be PC'ing often I would definitely recommend one. I have two 925's I've been using almost daily for years and plan on getting a 941 soon to cut down on the number of sterilization cycles I have to do. The best thing about AA's, aside from lasting forever is that they keep a lot of their value so you could use it for 10 years and still be able to get some $$ back if you decide to sell it down the road. I consider it a long term investment more than a luxury item.

I agree w/ you but I do have to say if you are low on cash and just getting in the hobbie the 23qiart PC is perfect IMO, if I have the money I will buy anything made on us soils, the same with wal mart, if you don't have the money it's okay to go there but if you do I stay the fuck away from Wally World, now here comes the shot storm on me, that is just IMO because of the way they decimate small towns!

I agree getting the 23 quart presto. The 8 quart is just too small and will make you want to upgrade to a bigger one quite fast in the future. The 23 quart presto will cost you 20 bucks more than your first proposal, and will give you the ability to do anything you want without giving you a handicap when it comes down to size. You can only spend your money once, so better spend it wise. When deciding which pressure cooker to buy, size does matter! The presto will do it's job and give you good results. The all american is a better PC, when it comes to durability and quality, but will not give better end results than the presto.

As in the 23 quart model? If so I can guarantee you will not be disappointed I think a knew gasket is a couple bucks, that probably would not be a bad idea if you can work up the cash, in the meantime I would be checking Craig's list and ebay, who knows you may run across a great deal!

Yep, I'm not at the point of actually needing the All-American yet but I bought it in anticipation of ramping up my production. I'm still working on preparing for my first bulk grow, I just finished making jar lids last night.

The presto 23quart model 01781 is a PC and a PC, LOL but really it is both and comes with everything you need, I have an extra jiggler or whatever you want to call the weights because I knew nothing about these things, and saw it and thought I needed it, so I have the capability to cook at 5,10, or 15 psi. Now I am no cook, so I have no idea what I could use it for, I guess just for a spare. And hello enigma1 good to see ya, getting ready to make up my 3rd batch of WBS!

I gave up on Pressure Cookers, and a random day got one at Walmart for 20 bucks...
Totally worth waiting... Just try to get em when they have discounts, those things are expensive man.

If you decide to stay in this sport I guarantee you going to magically come up with the money to buy a quality pressure cooker sale or no sale.
