Does anyone else feel like a child again when tripping?
#19295146 - 12/18/13 08:49 PM (10 years, 1 month ago) |

Every time I trip (mainly on LSD) I sort of go back to my childhood self and remember all these moments in my childhood I thought I'd forgotten.
Is it like that for anyone else? And would psychedelia have something to do with nostalgia?

Hell yes. It's called autobiographical recall and seems to be a common enough effect.
Don't know about nostalgia, though I know I get nostalgic thinking about excellent trips.

I feel like a child in the sense that everything seems new and wonderous, I'm full of energy and physically even I'll feel younger, movement just seems easier and more fluid for instance, but I'm not sure about the memory aspect. I definitely get nestalgic feelings, and those feelings are tied to memories, but it's just a feeling, as if I am there, not an actual recolection of the event itself if that makes sense.

I think the majority of people who trip and get into tripping love that childlike aspect of tripping. It's a magical feeling

I'm still a kid, so this is a bit hard to answer. But L definitely makes something magical. It allows you to see what we take for granted as its true beautiful self.

i have very specific times in trips where i've recalled memories from my past. this other time i recalled a memory from when i was a one or two walking on the beach. that one was a real trip. i even recalled the emotions and thought processes I had when i was in school and first learning to read and interact with other kids.
i have the general feeling of feeling like a kid most of the times I trip too. it's almost the same headspace in a way.

"Appreciating" is somethings kids are great at also not knowing exactly what is happening and paying close attention.
Psychedelics add these features to ordinary experience.
As a trip unravels (and I think this applies to all psychedelics equally -dose, set, and setting aside) the child-like MOOD, helps unlock pieces of childhood memory.

If you're still living at home, in your original house and original bedroom, then tripping in your room will definitely make you feel like a little kid.
When I was 18-19 my parents went away for a 3 week vacation in Europe, I had the house to myself. It was like a gift from GOD! Best weeks ever.. I tripped several times while they were gone, one trip was alone and it was my most intense acid trip so far. My room was upstairs, and there was a hallway, a bathroom a couple closets and my sister's room. She was away at college. During my trip I got on the floor and crawled all over the upper floor, all over my room examining every inch. I crawled in the closet, I crawled down the hall and into my sister's room, I got under her bed. I went in her closet. I was reliving things I did as a toddler. With or without my sister, that upper floor was my play area and I owned every inch of it. I was that toddler again and I re-felt all of the feelings.
It was the most amazing experience. The same place, same sounds, smells, same carpet, everything the same as when I was like 3. All that external stimuli forced my memories and realizations to resurface, and it was a blissful experience.

Very well put, this is exactly how I have experienced the childlike quality. Watching the behaviors and mannerisms of infants and young children in my family really let me see the numerous similarities to their behaviors and my personal psychedelic experience.

At birth one is given a massive dose dmt.. small children stay in a trippy state of mind untill they are bound in the reality by their surroundings.
-------------------- And thus begins the reverse-fusing of our one-dimentional understanding, and adds ever-expanding perspectives, in depth and number; splitting our perception, and in so doing, seemingly irrationally, creates yet more one-ness, with all that ever was, is and will ever be, streching across the infinite, inunderstood concept of everything, percievable and not.

Well tripping does turn you into a child more or less.
Children simply don't have all the inhibitions one builds up in a life, and they aren't really used to the world yet.
Same goes for psychedelics. Your inhibition are washed away and everything is new and shiny and needs to be explored again.

I always feel like a little kid, this is only really bad when Im hanging out with other people though because sometimes I feel like a little boy and i'm hanging out with all these tall big adults with facial hair and what not. (even though I'm 23).

Tripping for me hasn't brought back nostalgic memories, but nostalgic feelings. Like when being a kid and everything was new and wonderful, and just walking down to the end of my yard was an adventure. Simple things I tend to overlook everyday become fascinating when I trip. It's like tripping kickstarts this dormant part of my imagination.

Yea I agree with most of the posters. I don't get nostalgic in anyway really, but I do feel like a child again.
I feel like a child in the sense that my eyes are filled with wonder at the everyday things. Losing myself in the awe of the mundane.
I feel like everything is new and amazing and beautiful and just magical.

Not really I just get a hugely tactile cozy ecstatic adrenalin rush. But that's mescaline. The euphoria from shrooms and dmt is more "eureka!!" and actually quite calm, relaxing. Dmt euphoria is the most perfect psychedelic euphoria and I've had tasteless blotter acid, which is somewhere in between, an intellectually but not warm/cozy feeling euphoria.
Dmt euphoria is ultimately intellectual and you feel infinitely grateful for existing. You are amazed by everything, and you think of yourself as perfect and beautiful as you look at your neon pattern covered self in the mirror.
-------------------- On the ground you lay, with your dogs you pray, at a neon hieroglyph sky you gaze Hugging your mind, praying to survive, feeling the love of the hieroglyphs in the sky We all need more love, and mainly less hate Hate is the blind that covers the heart's eye That makes the heart's eye cry Locked deep away in the skies of our minds It's all in the mind

children are experience and they dont worry
also everything is new/more appreciation often
so I guess you could say they make you a child again or maybe you made yourself forget the love for everything
meditation can make you view the world with the eyes of a child again too, although you usually get to keep your old self
psychedelics strip it all, yet I am back to myself again had the child, animal, hippie, back to old experience too :-P
although you never return fully, but you dont want to return fully at least I dont want to return to my old self
any intense experience will change your life forever, it is like reading 1984,the power of now or another good book you will always remember it, and it will change you as a person

All of your response describe exactly what I was getting at. I guess it puts you in a childlike state of mind because children are literally seeing the world for the first time but acid makes it feel that way. So it's like being a child but you're not.

Is salvia really as fucked up as people say or is it just lots of people think it'll be like weed and smoke it with the mind set thinking it's gonna be "gangsta" or "sick"?
Although I've heard the body high is kinda fucked. Not trying to derail my own topic, just asking.

cannibis has an entertainment commodity consumption value like burgers sex beer and french fries
salvia is not such a commodity, it's amazing, but not consumable while worthy of exploration and discovery.
the distinction makes people think it is a religious or philosophical mindfuckery... strong psychedelic effects will not fit well into a commodity mould.

You need to be 100% mentally prepared for it, it's THE most psychedelic natural drug (yes above DMT) It is unpleasant 99% of the time, but I think it's well worth it to do it once or twice for the experience
Just play some shponge, take 1-2 hits, lay down on a blanket in a dark room, and breath out once you start tripping. Don't have friends with you that will be laughing or talking while you're tripping (I personally did it alone in a room with nothing dangerous and blocked off the exit just incase)

as with any other psychedelic drug, set, setting, dose
unpleasantness varies with set,setting,dose
mindset i.e., or hidden stuff in your mind (subsconsciousness)
Ive had friends try it who smoke weed, they just sat still, nothing happened but they say they went to another universe (didnt hold long enough I think, they exhaled at 15secs or so) but when I did it with them as sitter I laughed more than Ive ever done in my life everytime, for several minutes
I havent regretted any salvia sessions, but they are intense, I wouldnt smoke it everyday i.e. some of them have been as memorable as my best LSD/shroom trips, maybe even more very psychedelic
best setting for me is laying down, dimmed light, no sound in environment / very calm relaxed music no pain that way really, only good trip
sitter is a good idea, I rarely smoke it alone... there is a risk of falling i.e. if sitting up seems more spiritual alone and more fun with good friends, more fun than weed IMO .. but has to be respected - set, setting, dose else it will give problems to those smoking!
