God damn trich and cob web.
    #19294648 - 12/18/13 06:43 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

So I had a brf bag 100% colonized and I was just waiting for it to consolidate. So I went and checked on it and low and behold there is a green line going around the outside of my cake! Also in one corner there is what I suspect to be cob web mold.

Now I'm pissed lol and wondering what I should do remove it from the bag and try to fruit it or throw it away.

Also how the fuck did they get in the fuckin bag?
Were they there the whole time? Hiding and waiting? Wtf. Lol. Fuck it I guess. Maybe I'll do my own experiment with it.

Could be anything. pre-made bought bag? Sterilization parameters? How was it inoculated SAB,FH, open air? LC or MS also Flame needle or alcohol? What kind of filter does it have on it?

I'm thinking your only hope for it is bury it outside if you're somewhere it can survive the winter(if it's winter for you now) and see what happens.

Is it just one cake in one bag or is it multiple cakes in one bag?  I am a bit confused.  Either way you need to just throw the bag away without opening it.  It is a total loss.  Anything and everything in the infected bag has the mean green.  Opening the bag will spread trich spores all over the place and you will be damning all your future projects.

Was it a pre-sterilized vendor bought bag or was it a bag you made?  It could have been contaminated any number of ways.  The first I would think of is that the bag was not properly sterilized from the get go.  Next I would think that You might have been using a dirty print.  If you performed your inoculation in the open air there is a chance that mold spores that were in the air fell on your inoculation point.  There are so many different vectors for contamination.

And, bear in mind the point of all those precautions and sterile procedures is primarily to protect our crop from US.  We the cultivators are the number one source of contaminants.  We stir up mold spores when we walk across the floor. Mold spores are on our clothing if we haven't put on freshly washed clothes just before beginning work.  Bacteria flows from our mouths when we breathe, and fills the air with live bacteria if our armpits are sweating.  If we sneeze, up to 200,000 thousand bacteria can be released.  These attach to dust particles in the air and float for a long time.

That's why the most successful, long term growers shower, wash hair, brush teeth and use mouthwash, put on freshly washed clothes, wear gloves that are washed with alcohol, masks, hairnets, etc. every time they do sterile work.  Sometimes we can get away with less, but one failed batch of jars, or petri dishes swiped with rare spores can pay for a lot of gloves and toothpaste.

Mold spores are everywhere.  In your bedroom, kitchen, hair, school, etc.  Consider how easy it is to get mold on your bread in the kitchen - you open it up for a few seconds a few times a week and boom!

The only difference is that you're not dealing with bread, you're dealing with fungi medium - and both trich and cobweb are fungi as well!  You're setting up optimal conditions for both your mushrooms and molds.

The best thing to do is start over and do the best you can with sterilization.  You mentioned BFR bag?  How did you sterilize the medium in the bag?

Yea it was pre-sterilized from the vendor. Also I did use a wild print. I'm sure it either came from my print or my procedure. It was mostly just an experiment anyways. I do use a SAB and very sterile procedures. 99% it came from my print.

I was just surprised that it made it all the way to 2 days before I would've mixed it with some bulk sub. I mean I was like alright 2 or 3 days and I'll be spawning to bulk, looked at it quick before work and was like FUCK!! Lol.

also it won't survive winter although it would be a good test. Seeing how I'm going to be starting some Ps. Cyans or azures in the next month or so.

I really just needed to vent. I don't have anyone in person I can talk to about my grow. I was kinda hoping someone would be like "cut off the mean green outside. Throw it in your tub and fruit it. I did it and it worked" I still might try to fruit it in a separate place but idk.

I might as well just wait for my PC and agar. Start over from scratch and do it right this time.

Yea I would say Definitely the print. Did you just scrape spores into the bag? Bags give a lot of people problems in a SAB it's just harder to have a good sterile TEK with them compared to jars. Not saying it's impossible but more people seem to have bad results doing it in practice. Wild prints are way less sterile than indoor prints and even those are not perfect, I wouldn't scrape spores onto any sterile media only agar if you're looking for any sort of good ratio of successes.

No actually I made it into an MS syringe and what makes me laugh is this was my test syringe and it lasted longer than my rye did. ALL 9LBs of my rye contaminated almost immediately. While that little brf bag made it all the way to consolidating.

Also yea like I said above. I'm 99% sure it was my print. But at the time I was being impatient. I ordered a spore syringe from a vendor. Its been a month and a half and still nothing. Meanwhile I won this print in a giveaway. I got it in a few days.

So here I am sitting on a shit ton of pre sterilized spawn. All I had was a "dirty" print. There was no way those bags would be good a month and a half later. So I made a test syringe and nocd up my free brf bag and waited. Everything was goin great, so I made 3 more syringes and proceeded to noc up all my rye in 2 separate sessions.

Well now everything went down the tube. Should have waited and done it all the right way.

I would like to add I've been doing this for 3 years now on and off. I've also been growing bud for 7 years consistently.

As I said above I have no one I have no one to talk to about my successes and failures.
