Have you Seen this Mushroom?
    #19293342 - 12/18/13 01:23 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Another flashback photo from my photo archives...

this was the 2010 season...
North-West Sonoma County...
Found growing on the side of the road at the base of a steep ferny and mixed forest hillside...
Spore color is dark, but cant say for sure what color.... a shade of black, purple or brown likely...

-unfortunately I don't have any other information on it...

Never ID'd it... thought I'd see if anyone has any opinions on it.

a weird giant Stropharia was my original guess...
years later I am still leaning towards Stropharia.. maybe ambigua?

Xerula furfuracea perhaps? I doubt it unless you found it east of the rocky mountains...
This may be helpful for you.

I agree with your idea that it is a large S. ambigua.
Another reason it is probably not xerula is that xerula have white spores, whereas this had dark colored spores.

You are right. I should have read the description a little better.
It is probably a Stropharia.
