I was wondering, if we use perlite in a SGFC to increase humidity, and help with FAE, would it not make sense to add some verm to the mix? Wouldn't it only help retain moisture? It's similar to perlite in that it contains nothing for bacteria or fungus to grow on...would it help or hinder the grow op?

Verm does contain trace amount of nutes/minerals which could be inviting to contams best to just rehydrate the perlite.

The perlite works because it is so porous and has a lot of surface area
Adding verm to the mix will block some of the pores, reducing the effectiveness of the perlite

Yes, which is why you don't want to use it. The idea is to evaporate moisture. Perlite has the surface area to do just that. It's also porous so the air can filter up and through it. Don't clog it and don't try to retain moisture in the perlite. The overspray from when you mist will take care of re-hydrating the perlite.
Also, you won't find much mycelium on perlite, but it sure as heck grows into and through vermiculite. Fungi evolved when there was little but rock to much on. This is why there's no replacement for it in the brf tek. That tiny bit of brown rice flour isn't making all those mushrooms by itself. RR
