Lol!
I don't know about the Shroom world of Australia, but you should probably just keep at it.
Rain always helps, too.
Sure seems like a lot of work for photography.

Hey man I feel your pain, I've spent hours and hours, driving miles and miles to find morels with no success. When I finally found them It was the richest reward I've felt. Keep at it and when you do find what your looking for you will be glad it took so long.

Don't know if you'll find them that far south. Remember, night temperatures need to average 20 and above, plus plenty of rain before they start. We're only just approaching that time of the year up here above the border, so I doubt Sydney's conditions are prime. Just give it a little longer (within a month) and make the trek to NNSW

Try burning some sage and praying to the Mushroom Gods before hand. Alan Rockefeller recently opened my eyes to the magical powers of sage, it could work.

Probably watch this forum and go hunt when you see others in your area finding mushrooms
On the good side, you are outside and in Australia and it's almost summer ... Better than a day in the office here is the gloom of winter

I usually use sage to remove bad spirits from electronic devices, and have had excellent success doing so. However it is also useful for making wishes come true - you write your wish on a sage leaf, put it under your pillow for 3 days, and then bury it.

Ok, so after closely examining your claim, and consulting my trusty alchemist, astrologer and hollow earth theorist mates, turns out you were in fact correct about the supernatural potential of the holy sage. I do however have one question. Do we sacrifice the the 11 koalas before or after the ceremony?

wouldn't it depend on if you want the koala bbq as part of the sacrament or just an after-snack?

Keep at it man... three weeks is not so long.. Keep at it.. An awesome mycologist once told me something like " you need to hunt 8hrs a day, everyday" I try to at least do 8 hours of mushroom related things a day.... usually it is more like 5. But i really like to think about it. so keep at it.
Department of redundancy department^
Let me tell you, it took me a long time to see my first actives. Key to success is getting out as much as possible, you will be rewarded for your efforts! Please take at least 10 pics!
EDIT also look up some of the australian active finds! the more you research at night, the better you do during the day. Use google maps to find good areas.

me too..... but can you? i know someone who pretty much does this and probably enjoys his life very much..........aACHEm.. Alan... it requires no fancy degrees! just passion.
I did this, this last fall. this one..... thats why i found so many epic finds. I drove at least 2-3 hours a day and hunted all day, got back, and studies more habitats.... I had school too.

I would think that there are some professional fields mycologist out there, that do data collection and are outside hunting for 8+ hours per day. Doesn't New Zealand pay Inski to do that with unknown Cortinarius?

I believe that required 8 years of him working at NASA to save money.
There's nothing to hunt in California this year.
