post-flush dunk questions
    #19293607 - 12/18/13 02:32 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Hi gang,
I usually don't roll may cakes after the first dunk because I usually have large pins/fruits all over the things. But I always put a layer of verm on the top of the cake to add moisture. That layer can almost become part of the cake by the next dunk, so would you guys scrape it off? I usually do and it comes off easy enough, but I do have to handle the cake and rub it off under the faucet for a minute. I don't like to handle cakes too much after a first flush, they always seem more delicate. Could i just leave it on? I know we are not supposed to add another casing layer/roll after 2nd dunk due to possible contams, which I don't understand as plain verm doesn't have any nutrients and shouldn't be able to be a host as far as I know. But I usually get crappy 2nd flushes and rarely a 3d, probably due to limited moisture. Your opinion matters! Thanks!

verm does have nutrients and mold can land on anything, just leave it on there. i don't re-roll either as time goes on your mycelium gets weaker and contams can set in
