Dry verm kinda fuzzy?
    #19293384 - 12/18/13 01:37 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Hey all! I just birthed my 12 jars, they are all dunking. On a few of them the top layer of verm had a light color fuzz ontop of it. I removed the dry layer and rinsed them off and proceeded to dunk them. My concern is if infact this was cobweb mold and they are dunking, will it spread while dunking? I plan on changing the water in about 12 hours.

chances are if it really was cobweb mold then it already spread.. next time let the cobweb grow post a pic and we will tell you what your options are.

If they smelled OK and weren't pinning it could be myc, not mold.  If it's cobweb you can treat that easily with H2O2 I understand, so not a major issue on a couple cakes if they pop some cobweb you will know in a few days.

That was the correct action.

Mycelium often grows up into the verm filter, especially if one leaves the foil on or uses an incubator.  If cobweb shows up, simply spray it with 3% hydrogen peroxide and the cobweb will melt on contact.

Thank you RR! I followed your tek to the T  everything looks great. I saw some of the Mycelium look as if it were growing up onto the dry layer before I even birthed. I assume it was this bc they smelled like fresh mushies   If it helps, I did not leave the foil on or use an incubator. My room temps are 70-72. The 4 holes I drilled in the lids were fairly small.

They smelled AMAZING! Even the dry verm in the bowl I emptied into smelled like pure fresh mushrooms after  I will watch the cakes for future signs of cobweb. I hope its not bc they are all being dunked in the same container.

Also I noticed some droplets of water on the inside/tops of my lids when I opened. The dry verm was not exactly dry as the day I put it in.

Amazing! Thanks dude! I was freaking thinking the cakes  mentioned being dunked with my other cakes and wondering if cobweb mold is spreading throughout the water infecting the good cakes LOL....time to calm down and listen to some Shpongle!

Should I check for anything after dunking and rolling?

Just a sniff test is all you can do at that point. Put them in a SFGC and leave them alone for a couple weeks after your roll them!  :rastamon:

Sounds good man! They smelt awesome! How long after I roll them will I notice if it was cobweb? I hear that stuff spreads pretty quick? Does cobweb have a nasty smell?
