I have a HE top load washer that has an 'auto fill' feature for filling up with water. Well, I want to recycle my dehumidifier & excess water from my R/O system but not sure how this auto fill sensor works? does it work on weight of the clothes in the tub or pressure from the water or what? It would be pointless for me to dump in 2-3 gallons from my R/O system before the wash just to have the machine think the load is 16lbs heavier and accounts for it by adding extra water.

recycle thewater while its filling and see if it stops filling?

That sensor in most machines works by sensing the water rise to a certain level. It then flops the clothes around to soak up water, which makes the water level drop a bit, it then adds more, and repeats, until the water level doesnt drop much anymore. It takes that as a cue to start the wash cycle.

cool thanks guys. I pretty much just figured it out doing some trial & error tests. I added 2 gallons beforehand to my first load of clothes and timed how long the washer filled for (approx 3:30 seconds) washed that load & dried them and then put that same load back in the washer and did not add any recycled water and it filled for approx 5 minutes so it's def not the weight of the clothes but water level or a pressure switch of sorts. so I think I can use recycled water in my washer.

I'm a washing machine expert, but I don't think you could afford my expenses.
...That is, unless you launder a lot of money.
