December Sierra Fungi
    #19292526 - 12/18/13 09:30 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Almost two weeks ago a crazy snow storm followed record cold temperatures seemed to doom an already bad hunting season. Luckily the mountains have warmed up and the snow melt has provided some much needed moisture. Everything except the Hebeloma were found around 4,000ft.

Hebeloma species

Laccaria amethysteo-occidentalis

Agaricus subrutilescens

Mycena species, probably M. pura

Xeromphalina cauticinalis

Russula species fruiting right next to what may be Inocybe griseolilacina

Possibly clitocybe

Haven't found a name for this one yet

Possibly Gymnopus

Floccularia albolanaripes

Cool finds.

Is spore color really the only difference between Floccularia and Tricholoma? That's dumb.

Actually these also have white spores. The fluccose stipe, annulus, and veil remnants on the cap margin are really the only differences i know of between and tricholoma equestre. There are probably more but my knowledge is pretty limited.

Lovely photos.  I don't think your Mycena is M. pura though.

Your right RD, it looks more like M. purpureofusca but I haven't heard of it fruiting off a log before. The log is pine.

I collected Floccularia albonaripes this spring near Mt Shasta. They had a faint, but definite Matsutake odor to them, and I really wanted to eat them.

They got forgotten in my fridge.  MDM says they aren't very good, but I want to try them next spring.  I haven't seen them in the fall.

I've been meaning to try them as well since Mykoweb suggest they are an under rated edible. These ones were really water logged so I didn't keep them.
