Is this a mushroom?

I have never ran across this in my life until last spring, now this was found on an oak tree about 6 ft up in a hardwoods forest this pic was taken this last spring

It looks fungal but I couldn't tell you what it is. Presumably a polypore of some sort.

I have no idea it was found in MO In the spring, I have never seen anything like it

If that is oak I would begin comparing Pseudoinonotus dryadeus. You should rephotograph it next month!

I am not the best at telling trees apart, as I think you read that post, but I think it was an oak, I have been trying to get better at this as it has A LOT to do with mushroom hunting! But I will return to this tree, I know exactly where it is, and I highly doubt anyone has picked it, Idk, but I will try my best to get back out and get more pics of this strange plant, mushroom or whatever the fuck it is!
