Life after the freeze
    #19285341 - 12/16/13 06:27 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I had a chance to try out my new point and shoot.  I was suprized to see fungi out after what the land went through last week.

That bird had no fear.  I have a video of him literally a foot away.

Thanks!

I'm not impressed with this camera at all for the price but I think it will be ok for me.  I'm really hard on my electronics, every screen I own is broken and this thing is built like a tank.

These pictures are good. Great looking mushrooms too. Don't worry about it if you're just getting used to your camera.  The only bone I have to pick is that some of these are focused on the cap in the rear. Just make it focus more toward the front subject and you'll be golden.

I'm glad you have some action in you area,  and a new camera.:dancingbacon:

Thanks for the advice, I'm will try that next time I get out.  I almost always use the manual focus and use the gill structure as a reference for clarity, next time I will use the rim of the cap and maybe that will bring the focus closer to the front.

I saw a canon xti on craigslist for pretty cheap.  Heard much about this cam for what we do?  Joust said it sucks....

Rim of the cap, exactly! If you get into longer shutter speeds then aim just past the rim of what you want in focus.

As far as the xti, I have no idea. I've only been taking pics for about six months and the only camera I've had is the T3i

I see!  If I could change the shutter speed I would do that for sure.

And the T3i is what I've heard is the bee's knees.  That's awesome you have one.  I still can't decide if I should buy a laminar or a camera first.

Your pics are good with the XTi. Brads pics are good with it. It seems to do well.

Joust didn't say it sucked literally just said he used it without any luck.

I'm using a Pentax optio wg2.  It's goofy looking but I'd go hiking off trail with it and think it will hold up to my torture :rotfl:

I will have a dslr in the near future.  I found out my cousin is a small town newspaper photographer so maybe he will have a few laying around.

Here is the gold finch vid,  it's crazy how docile he was.  How can people cage birds? I've never understood it.

that's awesome. The only animals that let me get close to them are armadillos, sometimes deer are pretty chill. Squirrels hate me so much.

I'd kill to see an armadillo man!  They are soooooooo crazy.

The coolest animal that I've got the closest to in the wild was a Martes pennanti (fisher) kit.  One got to touching distance in an old growth area.  I didn't touch it though, at the time I didn't even know what it was.  I plan on going back to get some film of them, they eat porcupines, I'd love to watch that shit!

I've heard that this one is good for mushrooms:  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/12145-USA/Canon_2537A003_50mm_f_2_5_Compact_Macro.html

Get a camera, growing mushrooms is super boring!  It's like watching paint dry.

Oh you kids today and your instant gratification...
What would you say then about growing a cactus from seeds that grows to 1/2 inch diameter and sets flower after 10 to 12 years??

Thanks, I actually enjoy growing mushrooms and having long term projects.  I find it really gratifying.  The first time I fruited oysters I was very stoked and felt really rewarded by the accomplishment but I can do with an SAB for now.  Everybody says camera first lol. Well at least all the photography freaks :laugh2:

If you wanna start growing a lot of mushrooms I would recommend getting the flow hood. If you are just looking to do small cultivation projects occasionally then just stick with the SAB and buy the camera.

We all will suggest you buy a camera cause it just means more eye candy for us. :excellent:
