Snipped off caps, leaving stems (clumpss not maturing same rate)

Saw this in a post I am quoting Frank here:
"However, when I want to let the rest of the tub mature while taking fruits that start opening their caps earlier, I just use my fiskers to snip the caps off of the larger fruits and wait to harvest the rest."
This was referring to what one should do when there is a clump of fruits and one has matured faster than the rest and needs to be harvested.
So is he saying to just snip the cap off and leave the stem? Would the stem not rot or something? Perhaps it would be fine for a few days? I am in this predicament and not sure what to do.
What do you guys do when this happens?
Thanks

the stem wont have time to rot.. if one cap is mature the others will soon fallow. ive done this and it keeps spores off of other mushrooms.

Alright yeah it seems to be going that way. Damn those veils sure do tear fast. Can come back in the room every hour and see the progress. Pretty cool. Alright thanks.

I just carefully separate it from the clump and pull the whole thing out. If a few immature shrooms come out with it so be it. Better than having spores all over the other caps.
I also never use scissors to harvest. I am a twist 'n pull kind of guy

Why do you care so much about spores everywhere? I never understood why it really matters besides the fact it is slightly messy?

Because I do not like the way it looks
Also I think mushrooms with closed caps look better and store more easily.
More importantly, it has been said that mass amounts of spore dropage could hinder future flushes

I use a scalpel to carefully cut as close to the base as possible without desturbing the surrounding fruits.
Spores aren't a huge deal they just taste like shit and make a mess of your FC. I pick when the veil breaks to preserve potency.
