Car question about power steering leaks

So my truck had a recall so I took it in to get it looked at. Lady starts all this jibber jabber about what it needs done and then they said that the power steering fluid had a leak and something about the rack and pinion and how its gonna cost $1200. Now I'm no cart expert, but should I have seen any leakage if she claims there is a "leak"?
There is no leakage anywhere on the driveway or on the street... am I being bullshitted here? My car runs great and I have no problems steering.
I talked to an auto buddy and he told me to not let them do anything on it and to bring it to him once I got my car back from the recall work so he can really check it out.
But does anyone here know if I should have seen leakage or not?

If its a recall shouldnt the fix be free? Ive had power steering leeks in 3 of my vehicles and every single time the steering became much harder, and yes there was a leak visible. Also once the fluid runs out you will here grinding in the motor as it burns out then steering will be pretty rough. If you can steer fine and you dont see a leak Id say your fine... But, Im not a mechanic and I havent seen your car.

Recall was for different things unrelated to the PS leak. There has been no leaks and I haven't noticed anything weird so I'm finding this strange.

Yeah I would wait to get your truck back and take it to another mechanic for a second opinion.
If its leaking fluid, you would most definitely see it on the ground.

I just brought it in a few hours ago, I don't know everything yet, waiting for them to call me back.

Yeah, I know. I'm actually afraid of this because I know some auto techs have tried to scam me before I only took it in for the free recall fixes.

You can fix a ps leak your self for rather cheap, I just changed all the lines on my mom's vehicle, it wasn't hard at all.
Just be sure to get high pressure hoses & clamps.
