From what I've read and studied in here. It should work but crushed stones like marble, small amounts of limestone for certain plants etc. I believe ferrel Crushes all his rock if I'm not mistaken. You see where your's are shiny? The slick may repel the roots for some time bit I'm not 100% on all of this exactly

You make a good point it makes sense...
I'll crush some rock tomorrow. It's shiney because I rinsed them and sprayed the pup when I panted it, but they are very smooth dry also...

No need to take it to any extremes! I'd just pound out a few of the larger ones if it were me.
Wait for Ferrel to sober up and pop in ! Hey may be able to give you a more clear answer. I've only worked with Terra Cotta to this point in the stone revolution but I'm planning to add more here soon

OK cool thanks fellas. I went through my bag of pebbles and picked out some tiny coarse ones and about a gram of dust from the bottom of the bag.
I sprinkled a bit of dust around the base and watered it in a bit, repeated this step all around the base and root.
Took the smaller pebbles and filled in some gaps and used them to stabilize the tiny pup in the larger pebbles.
I'm hopeful.
Question please, I have this in a plastic cup because I had no more clay pots... Problem?
ALSO how often do you guys water these cacti in rock I inagine the rock dried out pretty fast?
After all these edits I need to sober up also

I feel the rougher the rocks, the easier it is for roots to grab on. They can exploit the tiniest of crevices.

So do you think it will be okay or should I change rock?

Go with it. There should not be any damage if they dont like it. And to answer your previous question, during the geowing season you can water weekly or monthly. Which ever you like. But it doesnt dry out as fast as you may think. So monthly would be your best bet.
Nothing is written in stone, pun intended.

I add crushed marble to my mix - about 20%. I put it in plastic bags and crush it with a hammer.

Damn, Ferrel! Do you grow them that way, on their side, or did you just stand the rock to take a picture? It takes some stones to risk an Obregonia like that, but the result is well worth it.

I stood it up for the picture just to show how well they stuck. The horse crippler and the tephrocactus didn't stick but that mamm and Obregonia just ate that rock up and made it home.
God I love how these cacti grow. How they take nothing and make it something.

Cajones I got. Hopefully you are not too mad at me for using the babies you gave me as an experiment. I know you can spot them.

What are the three round green dark ones near front half? I keep finding seedlings growing on rocks and stones in my mix and not soil hahaha

They are Strombocactus disciformis. I messed up by using black granite on a white rock. But later I will dust will white limestone.
