I agree with you mallacht. When i worked out in thw oilfield i was out a week at a time. Everytime i got back soemthing was in dissarray. Cacti need no help from us but a bird a dog even a squirrel doesnt care about someones plants. They seem to almost do ot intentionaly. Even when i had a big tomcat he would fight to keep others away but always messed up somthing in the fight.

Knew you'd like that Ferrel haven't the foggiest what it is though, spotted it in a lady's yard, didn't appear that she had it there intentionally.

Or this. Is it related to echevaria?

They're both Crassulaceae genera, but the rosette habit of growth is a common evolutionary trait to plants that need to restrict either water or heat loss. Sempervivum is native to Northern Africa / Europe / Asia and Echeveria is North American.

Thanks for clearimg that up. I wanna lump them all together. Like my buddy always says "all succulents are cacti, but not all cacti are succulents." Or at lwast i think thats how it goes.

Backwards I think Ferrel, all cacti are succulents, what sets them apart are the areoles.

Pereskia are cacti, but are not succulent. They are also the only cacti with true leaves.

Neither, actually. There are masses of succulent plant families other than the Cactaceae - but not all cacti are succulent - although the vast majority are..
But as postij said, all cacti and only cacti possess areoles - the small cushion like organs covered in wool, hair or glochids, where the spines and flowers appear.

I quoted that to ferrel. I had a horticulture teacher that said "all cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti"
I wasn't aware that it doesn't apply to Pereskia... Although...
