Yeah but the stupid saran wrap came off. They have survived because they are on the bottom shelf and receive little bit of sun.

I sow in straight , non - pasteurized calcined clay oil-dry and they get just as fat and green as their primos growing in cactus soil .
They never make it past a couple months before they get grafted so I can't comment on anything further than that . But it does do a good job of denying fungal infections a foothold .
Every time I am tempted to till or spray something nasty I can hear Stamets in the back of my head reminding me that the world is running on mycorrhizae , or in this case bacteria and or mycorrhizae . And I dont do it . Mostly things work out . Mostly .

These all died. It's been quite difficult to grow this species
Anywho, here are the experiments a year later and here is how well they have taken.
Here is Echinocactus grusonii. Quite in love with the rock, he is.
Here is this one with a ring of flowers about to go. 100% stone eater.

Hey , does anybody know whether mamaillaria sempervivum and most other mams are rock compatible ? I've got a a sempervivum with a small dry hole in the lower end of the flesh , this hole I doubt is a problem , but the Generic cactus soil must not be the greatest so I'd like to know if I should plant it in the stone mix.

Problems with some traditional soil is that it may stay wet too long. It's gotta be fast draining. And this mix is very fast draining. Little holes can lead to bacterial infection and eventually rot. I got a chimera that I am gonna cut in half due to a hole that I thought would fix on its own but it rains and stays humid here too long. So it's just gotten bigger and more insects find there way inside and make it home and it's just terrible. So dry it out as much as possible and I believe the majority of western hemisphere cacti are rock compatible.
As you could see, the Astrophytum caput-medusae is not. oh well.

It's an on going project man. It's really stalled as of late but as more seeds are sown it will get going again.
Thanks for everything me peeps.
