Ive done slight research but I am wondering If there are any long term proven problems that arise from being an insomniac.

Potentially diabetes, depending on who you believe. This is the one concern that has seriously worried me, give my insomnia. Outside of that, the main threat seems to be full blown mental collapse following a particularly severe single instance of sleep deprivation.

You could most certainly have a psychotic break.. Start seeing things that aren't there, hearing noises.. stuff like that. Like EllisDSox said with the mental stuff.. But its not healthy physically either.

I can tell you a few of them from first hand expirience. Hallucinations, migraines and extreme decreased activity within your neuroreceptors leading to decreased cognitive abilities. It's actual possible to die from lack oof sleep but it's very rarely documented. Its a slow horrifying death over the span of about 2 months

when i stay up for a long time (24+ hours) it's usually absolutely fine until the last hour or two before i crash and then my thought process gets really wonky...always weird to fall asleep with your mind thinking completely irrational and incomprehensible things lol but it is a very creative state so i dont see too much wrong with it

Don't worry to much about being an insomniac, if you can get sleeping pills prescribed. I am on my second day of no sleep right now and I am positive my sleeping pills will put me to sleep tonight

My problem is not with a physical inability to fall asleep, it's more like a "oh ill go to bed in one more hour" type thing and then I'll see myself awake at 4-5am and just be like fuck it I'm gonna get an early start on the day.

Psychosis/schizophrenia-like symptoms can emerge after 48 hours+. I had the neighbours talking inside my head about my thoughts as I was having them and I saw a camera outside take a photo of me. Hallucinations like that are bizarre, you can tell they are not real but they are actually meshed into reality in this completely relevant way. It's like there are other yous inside your mind that know you better than you do.

It's common knowledge young people NEED at least 8 hours and as you get older 7 hours is pretty good, people that only sleep 6 hours a day AND are doing lots of physical/mental activities throughout the day are going to have bad health in the future
having a crappy schedule does not mean you have insomnia though insomnia is like literally not sleeping for more then a couple hours and functioning the same way these people have lots of time but they are going to die younger

personally, when i don't get sleep for a night (so up 24+ hours), i feel physically ill. my bowels get all messed up which i blame on the nervous system being fucked up. my whole core just feels "icky" when i don't get sleep.

For me, going more than 24 hours without sleep is one of the worst feelings imaginable. I feel crazy anxious, stressed, I get ridiculous hot for some reason, I have no appetite, my skin breaks out, and I get frustrated and irrational So I just don't ever stay awake for 24 hours, I always get at the very least 5 hours. The longest I've got is 36 hours I think and I started feeling incredibly depressed. I also have chronic drowsiness disorder or w.e its called, so I think that plays a role in why not sleeping is so bad for me.
