Lime Shower

I burned out the heating element on my pasturizer this week, so after looking at all the success folks are having with lime bath on here, I did a batch in 55 gallon drums...so far the logs are lookng good (4 days old, myc jumping off nicely)...anyway I'm most interested in the lime shower method a'la Aloha (http://www.alohaculturebank.com/mushroom-growing.pdf). Wondering if anyone has made one? I don't like the idea of dumping a couple hundred gallons of waste lime-water each week. Love to see some pics.
Thanks!

I am also planning on building a setup like that. Here's a link to a different Aloha page describing the process.

Oh sweet, that was what I was looking for. Hey lipa, what type of pump are you using?
Did another Lime batch today...i bought a new bag of lime (Powdered Hydrated Lime in a 25 pound bag, no chemical analysis on it, but it was all they had)...anyway the straw came out really yellow after about a 19 hour soak. Is that normal? Like...reeeaaaly bright yellow compared to the dull brown of wet straw.

I am using bagasse. (left over from sugar cane processing) After lime water pasteurization, the bagasse is a funky, bright, orange color.
so, yes, I believe we can call bright colors after soaking normal.

Just a big aquarium pump from an aquatics supply house. The size of the pump depends on the volume and height of the system. You'll just have to figure it out. The pumps will tell you on the side the volume and head.

This is an old thread. I don't know anything about this lime shower but I do know when things work well they tend to stick around. When they don't they fade away. If you're having trouble finding information about it that's probably why
