Golden Teacher Grow First Time (Lots of Pics)

Hey so I thought I would post some pictures of my cakes in there environment after birthing. Previous had some contaminants unfortunately but without further ado here are my cakes, currently am misting them about 5-7 sprays and fanning for 15-30 seconds 3 times a day. I just birthed them yesterday and put them in the terrarium today. Only 6 out of 12 made it contaminant free. And that other little bit was mycelium that only got injected on one side and failed at injecting the others because I didn't properly ration the 10cc syringe. Not the best job ever but my second time growing I know way better what to do and hopefully I wont have a single problem next time.
Here's a pic that made it in by accedent but its great so im including it. My rats:

Precisely hence the odd shaped lump cakes, I figured I would throw em in and see if it produces anything.
Thanks Pablo, hopefully it grows something nice.

 Taken today at 1:50AM
There seems to be a low humidity inside the terrarium is that normal before pinning? I've been boiling water to increase humidity in my apartment (It's tiny so that works) I'm getting a humidity monitor tomorrow to see what its at. Correct me if im wrong but I should start worrying if its not started pinning after 7 days and maybe try cold shocking them? I'm a bit of a pessimist so i like to prepare for every situation

What can I do to increase the humidity, it's sitting at 58%. Preferably without buying a humidifier.

Of course not, I'm not that retarded hahaha. Bathroom is probably the most contaminated place in my house. In all reality though I gotta figure out how to increase the humidity. Its not close to good enough in there.

Just keep up with your misting. That gives you 100%humidity on the surface where it matters most

Did you add the additional perlite? That will help with humidity a lot.
Also, once the cakes are colonized and owned by the mycelium, it would be hard for contaminates to take over. Not that I advocate showering with your cakes, but if they are colonized and consolidated, it shouldn't matter how dirty the bathroom is.
Out of curiosity of what may happen, I stuck this cake in a plant in my kitchen. No fruiting Chamber... just sprinkled a little tap water on it a few times a day.

The perlite will help.
Also, what is your fanning/misting schedule like?

I've been lazy. More pics tonight. I'm at 5 inches of perlite now
Fanning and misting 3 times a day. Approx 4-5 squirts in am, 5-7 mid day and 5-7 at night, fanning for 30 seconds after each misting sesh.
There's white fuzz on some of my cakes its pure white what is this. Pictures will come in a bit as I'm napping and lazy
Edit* searched around this is normal nvm. Pictures soon

Does your SGFC have a lid? That'll certainly fuck things up if not. Same drilling pattern as the rest of the chamber.
Going from 2" to 5" of perlite shouldn't make much difference for RH.
Also, don't trust cheap digital hygrometers. If you haven condensation on the sides of your chamber, you're likely at or around 99% RH.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NI4AQY/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
^that guy has been incredibly accurate for me so far. I calibrated with a wet towel (no adjustment needed, actually) and it reads 98-99% RH consistently. My cheap hygrometer says 70%. My analog says 99%… yep, I have three.

Yes it does have a lid. there was no condensation before i put the 5 inches of perlite
On a side note OH *#$# my cakes are going blue! What the *&%$ is this?
*edit this is a sign of dryness? Should I redunk and roll? No fruits yet just some fuzz at the bottom

P.S. My SGFC is in the closet so I keep the doors open for 8 hours while the light is off.

Yes I found out I was misting them badly and they were dry. I don't get it my house seems really dry and even with SGFC they dry out really fast. I don't have the money for a humidifier so I've been boiling water in my room lol

On your next round of cakes, try rolling your cakes so you get a little better coverage...the finer verm sticks better, and will give you that extra bit of humidity you're looking for. And don't spray them too quickly or heavily and most will stay on....just a shot or two here and there till they saturate.
Sometimes, when it gets too dry in my room, I'll put a pot of water on my dresser to help with humidity...for me, not my shrooms. Think that'll work?

well i have quite the opposite problem. though i do live in a place that gets moderately cold, my house maintains about 80 degrees even on the coldest of days. it's a struggle just to keep my house cool enough for my mycelium to colonize

if your windows are thin, and they keep letting in cold air, you can take off the trim, usually held on with only air nails....you can probably take it off with a butterknife. Take some poly (clear plastic) or even a clear garbage bag, and cut it to the size of your window. Duct tape around the perimeter of the bag, and put it up on the window, then replace the trim. The duct tape keeps the plastic from tearing when the wind picks up. Keeps all the draft out, and still lets the light in.
It will def help stabilize your temps

Get a cool mist humidifier. They're like $25 at wallyworld. You could probably take it back later too. Do you have holes under your perlite line? Those are the most important. Was your perlite soaked before you put it in there? Seems stupid but I've seen people miss more obvious stuff. That hot plate may be drying out your room as much as the boiling water is humidifying it.

The water helps greatly. Wallyworld has a few that are 30$ but I can't afford it yeah i do im wondering if its a good idea to dump out all the perlite re soak it and put it back in, would that be ok? I have a feeling some of the bottom is clogged even though i tried to do my best to unclog it.
Heres some more pics the first and second are the same cake. I hate the bruising it looks like contam. every time i see it but pins and im 90% sure it's just bruising since I was misting to hard and directly for awhile.

LOL!!! Where i'm from, everyone does it, it gets so cold here you'd freeze if you didn't.
My perlite was dry for the first few inches, so last night i took my cakes out, ran the shower into it, let it drain and put the cakes back in. The humidity was up this morning when i woke up....might work for ya

You could also set them in lids with moist verm in the bottom. I've seen people do that. I'm having a humidity issue myself, but trying to take care of it before I actually birth anything. My RH in my room never goes over 47 even with a cool mist going 24/7. Its probably ok there but id like it in the high 50s.
Instead of resoaking your perlite... Just mist it a lot? Make sure there's not any standing water on the bottom though. And you can mist those cakes quite a bit when there's no pins or mushies. They will soak the water up and use it.

The I want to resoak it all is to remove the small bits at the bottom blocking a few holes

Sweet. Makes sense though. They dont grow in AN SGFT in nature. wonder how many flushes you can get with constant watering. (maybe permanently?)

Yeah the verm i picked up is coarse as hell. I picked up a 25gallon bag for 12$ though so it's all good. I can crumble it between my hands which I will do way better for next time :P

Thanks for the clarity, yeah the guy seems a bit under informed.
Im boiling water right now and I put my lids from colonization in there to sterilize em. If they look good enough I'll put verm in them get it nice and moist and sit the cakes on top to increase the humidity
that shroom is going more blue, guess thats just the bruising from when i moved it, it was touching perlite so i put a little peice of tinfoil under it

Just make sure the verm isn't hot when ya do that. You can also place the cake on a little dish of water for a few hours to let them soak in water.

just pick the cake up and see if it feels light, if it feels light sit the cake in a saucer of water overnight ,the pins will be fine. the bruising may not go away right away the important thing is they get moisture.

Awsome what about my perlite issue? Is it unsafe to take them out and rest them somewhere while I soak the perlite?

for sure just be carefull when your handling them, when did the bruising start? almost looks like it was from a rinse or dunk?

Bruising has been there since day 1-2 of putting them in. I misted it a bit to closely i think, also when i dunked them and rinsed there was a plate ontop of the bucket being dunked in and I rinsed maybe pressing a bit to hard on the cake. If you mean on the shroom yesterday or today I believe.

I've gotten bruising just like this from dehydration I increased misting, dunks help if your cakes feel hella light, and it never hurts to rehydrate your perlite if your climate's RH is low... the plate on top of my cakes has caused some serious bruising as well sometimes it seems..? just what I've found so far

nice. any idea what your climate's rh is? mine goes between 30-40%... could explain some of the bruising, from my experience the bruising from a plate during a dunk or something should be an isolated section... shouldn't be too hard to tell. bluing throughout the cake occurred for me when my cakes were drying out
edit: even when my cakes got dehydrated like this I got at least an eighth per cake dry first flush, which isn't great but isn't a failure either... sound like you'll get a decent product regardless

According to my digi it can be anywhere between 30-60% but digi sucks so who knows what thats actually at.
My cakes are quite moist actually i mist them 3-4 times a day i think it was the perlite.

cool I mist 5-6 times a day in my environment... shit gets especially dry during the winter here.
how deep is your perlite? increasing mine from 4" to 5-6" helped me as well.

quite hammered so its all good my dry cakes gave my fucked up fruits but luckily no caps split or cracked... fixed the humidity pretty quick as well, but seems like once the cakes get blue its hard to fix em. I gave a couple of the cakes extra dunks though and that seemed to help quite a bit.
edit: regardless of the shit that happened to my cakes, my mini-tubs in the same room turned out really quite great first try. there are definitely advantages to the pf tek too, but just gonna throw that out there for the OP

bruising isn't the end of the world just an indicator that you need to change something up or your fruits are sucking alot of moisture out of your sub

Just finished rewatering i let it sit in the tub for a while, I grew tired of leaving it there so its back in the closet a few drops coming out the bottem but not that bad.

5 inches works for me... and the weight of the perlite makes the bottom of my tub bend in towards the middle so the remaining water drains out only one or two holes, I have it elevated enough to put a large bowl underneath and catch it after rinsing the perlite down in the shower

Don't do that to much liquid it will cause contams if theres a pool of water on it and cause bruising. Merry Christmas.
