One of the bags that had a brown wet spot has started smelling like dried fruit like raspberry, is that bad?
This bag,

i can smell the rye still, and no other bag smell like this, theres just a hint of dried fruit, i kinda feel sick from smelling the filter patch
from what i read its contaminated, its only at 10% while the other 2 are at 65%. if i come to the conclusion to toss it can i open the bag outside and save the bit of mycelium that made it and move it to some newspaper? i don't want to chunk the mycelium that's in the bag.

Dried fruit? That's a new one on me...usually it's barf-scented, or gym sockish. I've heard of sickly sweet being a contam smell. Any non-mushroomy smell coming from your substrate means something of the non-mushroom variety is stinking up the joint. Toss that bitch. No opening! You don't want to risk contaminating your Good Stuff. You have plenty of healthy mycelium that's only producing more healthy mycelium. Besides, there's no use in nurturing weak, sickly mycelium that's only going to perform poorly. You don't need that shit.

i did it anyways before you replied, but i changed clothes before coming back into my room. i just wanted to try it, just see how vigorous P.cubensis mycelium is, i don't have much hope in it.

in a plastic bowl full of newspaper slightly soaked in coffee water with a lid with 2 holes and taped them with micropore tape. i saw a grow were someone did newspaper alone and got a decent flush, so i thought why not.
Heres that thread http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/702059/fpart/1/vc/1
all he did was throw some newspaper balls into a bowl, put hot water in it, drained and added spawn, no pasteurizing or anything, looks pretty great.

Whoa. Shit, man...if you can make it work, go for it. Let us know how it goes. That would be, like, beating all odds.

Iv saved good mycelium from jars contaminated with wet spot. I just made a bulk sub with one brick of coir and mixed in about 2 quarts of salvaged mycelium. The bulk colonized slowley and I had to fruit it early dew to side pinning but I still managed to get 58 dry grams from my first flush. The second flush started last night while I was asleep iv got at least 200 nice sized pins sprouting up.
Cubes are quite resilient. It ain't over till its over. PS. Don't try this when contaminated with green mold. Toss that shit

well, i managed to save about 3 grams of mycelium and put it in a container about the size of a solo cup, the container had small balls of newspaper that was soaked in hot water with a half a tablespoon of diluted coffee,

Heres bag A-1 (A-strain) after 11 days.

it has about 20% left to go.
Heres bag T-2 (Tasmania)

It's a little behind, it maybe has 35% left to go.

Sorry, man. I just now caught up. Yeah, if it smells fruity it's bacteria. I'd call up the vendor and get another bag, for sure.
