Hunting in S. Carolina over christmas

taking a trip from portland OR back east to Greenville/Spartanburg area over christmas holiday and wondering what i should or could be on the lookout for edible wise.  any quick tips for a noob on habitat?  would love to bring back some edibles for the inlaws to ooo and ahh over.

I have been seeing a lot of Hericium and Flammulina coming in from the SE on facebook.  Clitocybe nuda also.

It's cool that your family is down with you collecting edibles. My parents and grandparents have explicitly said that they will NEVER eat mushrooms I collect from the wild. Such a silly stigma in the U.S.
