Agreed. I personally would take a SCAR over an AR-15
I'm really into Kalashnikov systems though.
I'd go for the new M-10 from Romania. I know people think Romania makes the worst AK's but that's because of those piece of shit WASR's that were brought in between 2005-2008.
The M-10 is a beast as it comes; and is better than any factory stock Saiga that you'll find.

that's not true.if a gun looks clunky it generally is clunky.they need to redesign that ugly,moonboot-looking stock on the scar.plus ive read comparisons in numerous gun mags that SCAR isn't as versatile/combat tested as the m1/AR..also i hear the trigger isn't nearly as crisp as you can achieve on an AR platform

Why is no one suggesting bullpups?
the FN2000 is awesome and the IWI Tavor is a great gun too.... maybe they are a bit more expensive thsyd why.
The p90 is an awedone, vonealanle gun too but you might need special permits.

As a left-handed shooter I can't enjoy bull pups.
Shooting right handed is awkward as hell for me, and if I'm stubborn then I end up with hot shells flying in my face

The newer bullpups have remidied that problem, some eject out thevfront, bottom, or have ports that convert to the other side.
bullpups are the way of the future IMO.

Sweet! I didn't know there were bullpups that accommodated to left handed shooters. I look forward to the day I get to shoot one.
I always thought that most bullpups were plagued with problems though?

Tomorrow after work I'll go check out a few shops . Thanks again to everyone how has helped me out. I think I have got a pretty decent basic knowledge level as well as an idea of what I'm looking for. I'm thinking I want to look for a 9mm p99 for practice and a Ruger LC380 for concealed carry. But I'm obviously not dead set on any thing yet and will be open to the employees suggestions. I'll let you guys know what I decide on. Thanks again.

Kel Tec makes a sweet 30 rd .22 pistol.
btw OP, what state do you live in? Some states have asinine and arbitrary laws on capacity and models.

Op check some auction sites you can find some awesome deals.
Im checking out this FN Scar 17S for under 700! You will need a dealer to ship too and they will charge some type of fee usually but IMO its the best way to buy the type of rifles you are looking for if your local shops blow.
Also check into getting a surplus WW2 rifle you can pick those up for under 200. Get a Mosin–Nagant the model 1938 or 1944. They are fun to shoot fairly accurate and loud as fuck all. Ammo for those bad boys less then .22LR.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Also, a shotgun is a good idea for home defense as well, considering you don't want to penetrate walls too much usually in that situation.
Did this thread really make it 5 pages without gun policy debate. Also I would like a coil gun as a home invasion weapon, not as powerful as a gun but they'd still work.
