Help identifying BRF colonization issues- bacteria?

Hi friends,
I have had many successful grows, however, recently i haven't been able to successfully colonize my jars... several times over.
my process is basically the "let's grow mushrooms" youtube videos - i used a large pot to steam sterilize for 90 min. id like a PC but don't yet have the money to buy one.
i have attached some photos and would love help identifying my issue. about a 3rd of my jars have significant mycelial growth. the remaining 2/3 have this off-white color and a shrinking of the cake. some of these have spots of mycelial growth, but seem to be losing the battle.
no smells at all.
bacteria? any thoughts? desperate for help, thanks guys.

I just happened to notice the "look" of the rice. Are you making your own BRF with a grinder of sorts or do you purchase organic BRF from the store? I also have to agree with last poster, looks very damp and in the jar with white. As for the yellow looking cake, did you try spraying the outside lightly with hydrogen peroxide to see if it changed the appearance of the growth? I have only done this once but I spotted a jar with what looked like contam (this jar was very hard to tell against myc), so with an empty syringe with h2o2, flame sterilized needle, inserted it into my jar and injected a little bit near the funky growth site. The growth looked like it melted almost instantly and the white mycellium was left behind. I threw it out afterwards though. It helped me immediately ID a cake that wasn't 100% mycellium, even though there was no funky smell.

Use the short wide mouth jars . Did all your problems come from the same spore batch?

Get the shorter jars preferably. what are you using for GE? How many holes on top of your lid, etc. What are you using to inoculate? Same syringe for failed jars?

If you've had plenty of success using the same technique then my guess is it's the syringe. The short widemouth jars do seem to cut down on colonization times though.
Once you get a PC I would consider using agar because MS is never contam free. It's intimidating to most beginners but sooooo worth it in the long run. It's really not hard at all as long as you got your sterile technique down you can do it in an SAB no problem.

Agar is easy, practice is hard, everyone is afraid of not being good at it the first time, I failed my first time, now I make it look easy.

Bacteria and mold. Since that long ugly growth appears to go from top to bottom, It was probably squirted in there at inoculation. RR
