Just for fun, Cased straight grains

I just microwaved the shit out of some coir/verm closer to a 60/40 mix, it's definitely sterilized not pasteurized. 3 quarts of colonized grain not dunked and then a big thick layer of casing. We'll see what happens.

Plate number 1 variety. It's either Creeper or AA+ I have no clue what plate no.1 has on it as far as genetics but it looks like a monoculture.
If my memory serves me right plate no1 and plate no3 were the same variety so it's probably creeper
Does this plate look like a monoculture?
plate no3 dish doing the invitro thang yo!

I'm at least using some sort of labels now. Used to be none but that got confusing.

I am obsessed with labels. It is important to know the full process for me at any time. I can look at any of my tubs, and tell you how many jars of grain, what type of grain and how it was inoculated....not to mention dates and times....

i do my best not to ad dates, it's either clean or contammed colonized or colonizing, dates just push my patients lol

on occasion I will date just to see what my colonization times are.

Once you get a process together, its nice to be able to do things and know that you can shave a few hours here and there....I am getting parts of the process fairly well streamlined. I have been regularly harvesting within 30 days of inoculation of grain because of this.

Isn't coir not considered a casing anymore?

yea, but I used it like one. I was hoping it wouldn't confuse any one.
So for clarification it's not a casing, but it's not spawned to bulk, it's "cased" with bulk I suppose.

i know someone who still uses coir/verm for a casing and it works great for him, i wouldn't say it's not considered one just not widely used

I have used coir as a component of casing in the past with success.

Fair enough, you guys know what your doing. I just didn't know it still had any credibility. It was my mislead understanding that it had completely lost it's value as a casing.

Haha, I doubt that I have half a clue lol. I have late cased bulk subs with straight coir with success. I personally think that coir has very little nutes...only slightly more than peat. I am not sold that there is much nutes in coir seeing how you can let it out damp for months and it won't mold over. I think (With "coir" bulk) a bulk of yield is based on the amount of grain spawn, the amount of water in the substrate and the total surface area of the fruiting area. Just my personal opinion.
Funny as it sounds, I was in the process of running an isolate in 2 tubs...one with coir/verm and one with peat/verm to compare output. Though I think there will be differences in yield, I doubt they will be as dramatic as some believe.
