Need help finding music (metal)
    #19276841 - 12/14/13 10:25 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I like metal, metalcore, djent, technical deathcore, progressive metalcore, whatever you wanna call it. I don't care about lyrics or vocal work at all. I care about instrumental work and groove. I like low-tuned guitar work. I don't like speed metal or hardcore.

Best examples I can come up with are Periphery's first album, Asking Alexandria's second album, Within the Ruins' latest album, Vildhjarta's Omnislash EP, Fellsilent and Depths (relatively unknown instrumental metal band that djent lovers should check out). Help me!

P.S., I also like electronic stuff like Pretty Lights' first album, Portishead, Nightmares on Wax, and Thievery Corp. Help me!

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad ~ Jack Handey

For metal? There's tons of stuff out there, and metal (as you know) various hugely in taste.

Depends on what you like, but here's some stuff off the top of my head as far as metal goes:

For a Death Metal Taste:

Death
Dethklok
The Black Dahlia Murder
Cryptopsy
Morbid Angel

Progressive Metal:

Opeth
Between the Buried and Me
The Faceless
Necrophagist
Strapping Young Lad

And not really what you mentioned, but maybe some Black Metal if you'd wanna give it a shot:

Burzum
Mayhem
Dark Throne
Gorgoroth

the internet is making way for a pretty awesome indie metal scene. Some people put their stuff up for free, and it's actually quite good music. I look for stuff on bandcamp and soundcloud, and I use this awesome site to create a music web that you can find more music with.

Here's the web thingy:
http://audiomap.tuneglue.net/

superb guitarists, some of these albums are definitely worth a few complete listen-throughs:

http://davidmaximmicic.bandcamp.com/
http://plini.bandcamp.com/
http://sithuayemusic.bandcamp.com/

Here are some pretty metal bandcamp pages

http://intervalsmusic.bandcamp.com/
http://anupsastry.bandcamp.com/ ---> drummer of intervals
http://corelia.bandcamp.com/

other stuff off the top of my head

evan brewer
soilwork
soul cycle
in flames
red seas fire
veil of maya (ehh)
all that remains (ehh)
underoath (newer stuff is pretty metal)
barrow
polyenso (if you liked oceana at all)
father figure (prog)
This Town Needs Guns (soft prog)
Apple Pie (russian prog)
Hail the Sun
American Football (prog from the 90's)

ahh, this list is getting less and less metal as i go on, but out of all of these, my personal favorites are those guitarists. Plini especially, give ALL of his albums a few listens.

P.S. half of these bands have bandcamps

Meshuggah. straight up: Koloss, obzen and catch-33 will make you shit yourself. But then you will feel 60 feet tall and catch yourself headbanging through the ceiling. this is ancient shit

meshuggah is bollocks, and i'm pretty sure if he's talking about bands like periphery he'll most definitely know about meshuggah. If not, we have a problem, bro.

Burzum - Aske/Det som engang var/Hvis lyset tar oss/Filosofem

Absolute essential metal experience. Especially a song called Spell Of Destruction from Aske. My absolute favorite metal song ever. All time and forever.

Check out Animals as Leaders.

Technical, melodic and even jazzy at times with occasional electronic break-core elements woven in.
