Best way to land a job in another state.

So I'm relocating as soon as I find work. I don't really have a set destination....I've just been scrolling random places on craigslist and looking for work that I'm qualified in.
It seems a lot of states pay almost double for what I do where I'm at.
I've been sending emails saying I was having family issues and was being forced to relocate to that area, and I was trying to line work up prior to moving. I attach my resume and explain a little about myself.
Would attaching a picture help? The line of work I'm in is face to face.
I assume giving it a couple of days and then calling them would help.
I'm worried a lot of them are going to want me to fly out for an interview before hiring me, and that is the part I struggle with. I don't have the money for multiple round trip tickets that might be in vain.
Ever heard of an out of state job hiring you without doing an interview? Or possibly skype? Is it weird to ask for a video interview?

I also worry that not being a current resident of the state I'm applying in might restrict me from working until I am.....

I was wondering the same thing I live in a non medical state and I wish to move to Washington or close to Mendocino county and I'm lost on how to gain employment before becoming a resident! One would assume you could get a job through a franchise and transfer over! But i think Monster.com and other job finding services should use skype to get people employed that would rock!!!

I work for a chain right now, and was hoping to do something like that....I just don't know how to approach my boss with " hey can I transfer to colorado or cali....anywhere in either is fine "
My line of work is in high demand, because no one really wants to do it, but I don't mind it at all.
I've sent my resume out to 5 different places I plan on calling on monday, but I don't know what I should say to make it any easier to accomplish. The fact I have 7 felonies does not help much.....

Nah dude, you don't need to apply to residency for a a state or anything. You just change your license plates after a while. I wouldn't start your cover letters off with the statement that you are having family issues. They want to know what you can do for them, not so much your reason for relocating. In general your cover letter should just describe your strengths and why you want to work for that particular company.
Generally if you interview out of state it is the company that picks up the tab, but if it is not a well-paying job they probably won't bother flying you in. You could suggest a video interview maybe if you get a bite. I don't know about sending a picture though, unless it is embedded in your resume in a Linkedin sort of way. Actually, I think that's a good idea.
If it's the type of work where you can go in and talk to a manager rather than someone in HR, you could always take a road trip and hit up a bunch of companies. Depends how white collar it is probably.

Depending on how hard it is to find work in your field, I would just sell everything and move over in a van. Start applying for work and leave out all those nasty details in your cover letter
CO and WA are both great.

I do night audit at hotels....so it pays in the 15/hr range......It's extremely corporate so they may cover a plane ticket...it all depends...I have a ton of experience doing it.
The job isn't my ultimate career choice, but the amount of hotels in america makes it extremely easy to consider moving, and having work when I get there.
Working midnights at a hotel made me start realizing being in a friendly state, with more accepting people of my lifestyle, would help everything in my life a lot. Most people here give you the cold shoulder.
Not only that, I'm sick of being anne frank about marijuana here. I refuse to quit, and I hate cops lol

It's not like those were all seperate incidences. Only 2. I fucked up, then got raided after I fucked up and still had shit in my house.
I went 23 years without any charges.....then yes got careless....and got caught with a boat load of drugs after a raid. All my charges were possession though, no trafficking. I didn't even have a scale at my pad.....all the mushrooms were picked.
Back on topic though!

I found once i moved and had a local area code phone number that I got a way better response than when i was across the country and just planning on moving. Moving without job lined up can be scary prospect but long distance job search is a bitch.

I'm most definitely worried about going to a pot friendly state with a stack of felonies and no job and expecting to snag one fast. It took me months to find this job while I was unemployed. I like the idea of getting a colorado phone number. I could have someone snag me a prepay phone and mail it to me, it does make sense.

Yo dawg you can buy yourself a burner and upon setup type in a zipcode to where you want the are code to be and BAM!!!!! You have a local cell number. You can also set up a Google voice account on your droid with a new phone number and be able to use it whenever. I think the catch is you can't receive an actual call but it goes to a voice mail that you will get an alert of having one pending and you can return the call.
I could have this wrong but if I do its close.
I'm pretty sure you can figure it out with the helping hand of the googzster

I've had several out of state jobs. Typically you apply, a hiring manager will call you to discuss benefits/options/pay etc., then they fly you out. It's not uncommon to do an initial Skype or video call either.
It's 2014. It would be foolish for an employer to limit themselves geographically.

I don't think most places are going to lineup employment without the interview process. I think you are probably going to have to try and line up several interviews in a small area for a specific time period and hope for the best.

Most employers start with a phone interview and if you pass that will move to a Skype interview as badchad alluded. Only then will you be flown out for in person interviews. It's a pretty standard process.

It depends on how they feel about you after the phone interview. Sometimes there will be a second phone interview, sometimes a video interview, or sometimes you will just get flown out after the first phone interview.
