There are a few threads for Dark Caps, but none looked quite like these, they are flat and saucer shaped, and dark in color.

Are they OK? They are growing daily.
Should they be golden brown. All activity on these cakes is the same dark red/brown color...

I can't say for certain, but just above your pins, the cake looks to be contaminated. This could be the reason why you have such small fruits, that have already broken their veils (seemingly), and are aborting. Aborting pin's caps tend to darken as they age.
Hope this information is helpful.

There were some errors along the way, and contams are more than a likely possibility

I thought that aborts being caused by over misting is now recognized as a myth? Can someone comment on this?

there not really aborts . Mushrooms need to breath just like humans do, except they do not have lungs. Mushroom cells exchange gases directly with the atmosphere. If the body of the mushroom is submerged in water it is comparable to drowning. No oxygen can be exchanged, anaerobic bacteria (bacteria which do not need oxygen to thrive) build up, and the mushroom is choked to death.
It is almost the same with the mushroom fruit. If it is too dry they lose too much water and desiccate. However, if it is too wet - the humidity is too high - the excess water prevents any gas exchange and the developing mushroom chokes off.
all that aside i don't see how overmisting can be causing it in a sgfcd on a cake

Under the cake revealed a couple of unexpected fruit bodies with the same sad cap.

Check out the dude creeping around in a very low Gas Exchange environment - trapped under the cake.

Cross section of one of the small ones. It smells kind of like the rotten vermiculite BRF mixture.

the ones I had were huatla, I don't think it's over misting because I have 16 cakes going in the same sgfc and only 2 that were from that spore syringe had those open caps, so maybe just the genetics from that syringe.
