Mycelium Growth
    #19273944 - 12/14/13 09:53 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I have searched and found mainly what i'm looking for but I was wondering if someone could answer a few questions in depth.

I been watching the Jim Reed Mushroom videos and i am not completely sure if i am doing this right.
For starters I made 10 Cakes Jars with
2 Cups Brown Rice Flour
2 Cups Water (480 ML)
4 Cups Verm

Added all those to each jar leaving 1 inch from the top left in which i put dry Verm (i wiped and cleaned the lips before).

I punched 4 holes in the caps and covered with MicroSpore Tape.

I put the caps on and put them in my Pressure Cooker at 15 PSI for 90 minutes.

I let it sit all night to cool (after 90 minutes completed) and inoculated them in the morning.

B+ (3 jars), Golden Teacher (3 jars), and Cambodian strains(4 jars).

Of course the room i inculcated them in was sterilized and i wore gloves and a face mask.

I left them in a closet for about 8 days now and i have not seen 1 sign of Mycelium. My temperature fluctuates in my house quite often. Going from the low of 65 to the high of 78.

By it getting too cold could it ruin the growth? or does it just halt it for a bit.

What should i do to keep a constant temperature (using the cheapest cost)

I did not sterilize the needle each time of inoculating because i only had a lighter. I read that it could mess it up?

Any other tips would be appreciative thanks!

Delete the Sponsor name from your post for starters.

Second, Everything to me sounds good. Other then not sterilizing the Needle between jars.

Things I'm curious about,
Did you Tilt the jars a little on their sides when inoculating? So you could see the spores run down the side of the jar creating a canal of sorts.
If no, then possibly the mycelium is in the center of the Cakes and you cannot see it.
If yes, Then two spores have possibly not touched each other and begun germinating.

Even if you have a contamination, you would see the contamination begin to grow.

if you are concerned about the sponsor, I would suggest asking about the sponsor in the SPonsor forum and not including anything about growing in that post.

Good luck.

Okay i removed them.. Sorry about that..
Is it okay to add more spores to the jars? Or just start all over?
I did add them to the side of the jar.
Im curious maybe i didn't put enough?

:whathesaid:

Plus, If there is a contamination that is stopping the growth, adding more from the syringe isn't going to help anything. Just ruin whats left in your syringe.

My recommendation: meditate on and become ok with the possibility that they will not grow.  Today marks three solid weeks after noc'ing eleven jars, prepared almost exactly as yours, with two different syringes and nothing is happening.  I had hoped to have fruit by new year's.  Now I've pretty well decided nothing is going to happen, but i'll leave them be as long as nothing else is growing.  Meanwhile i'll distract myself with more advanced study.  My PC is running right now.

as you may see stated over and over again... this game is all about patience to the point of stoicism.  since it takes, (or can take) so long for some steps to happen, it's wasteful of time to wait for those things to happen before acting on other things or trying other approaches.  it's been months since i set out on this path with nothing to show for it but a few mycelial splotches in a couple agar jars.  stoicism, man.  best of luck to us all.

As long as your house is above 68f you're just being impatient. It can often take 3-4 weeks even for germination, just be patient.
