Really nice set up... I hope to be able to own my own home someday, and do the same thing.

Just don't pump CO2 into your grow area during the dark period. The plants don't like it and for some reason, it causes the soil or solution to spike upward in pH. RR
Thanks for the tip; I never add co2 at night, but it is good to know what would go wrong. And yeah, growing iceberg lettuce is a little funny, although there is cholorphyl in all green plants. Try growing colorful varieties, heirlooms, or greens like: chard, beet greens, kale, choi, mizuna, endive, tasoi, etc, for more nutrient dense greens. My favorite is a huge mix of different lettuces with varying colors and texture. Get different shade of green, red, purple, spotted, lose leaf, head, frilly leaf, etc. All at once. This is the best salad; harvested without going outside in the inclement weather, and about 5 minutes before it is eaten.
You should switch to hydro nutes; youll feel silly for using pbp once you do. I have used the majority of nutrient lines on the market( my buddies own one of the largest hydro stores in the USA) and none of the "organic" liquid nutrient work well in hydro systems. One cubic inch of soil has more microbes than a most hydro systems and organic fertilization is completely based off of microbe action (fine tuned organic hydro does work, but only in soilless mix based systems using dry nutrients premixed into the grow media and supplemented by compost teas.) I finally ended up buying my own dry fertilizer salts, either premixed or making my own blend of salts. I can make a gallon of solution for a fraction of the price of any liquid nutrients. Also when using organic nutes you loose the main benefit of hydroponics; control. Who knows how clean the organic matter is or where it was sourced. When using fertilizer salts, they have very high purity levels and are extremely controllable. My favorite hydro nute premix is jacks hydro and calNit.

That's the shit right there. Custom blended soiless with drain to waste drip system running compost teas into net pots.

I really like this style too, its my favorite for outdoors; but you do lose most of the ability to control growth the way liquid based systems can.

My thoughts exactly, RR.
Interesting. I didn't know that about CO2 during dark periods or the change in PH.

I will look into those nutes, Aleon. Thanks for the advice. I just started into hydroponic growing about 2 years ago. I got tired of not having access to decent veggies in the winter outside of my canned goods.
