Psilocybin bruising while breaking spawn?

Hey all
When breaking apart the spawn to mix with the substrate, in one of the jars there was some blue bruising. Does this indicate the jar was quite mature for the next process? I assumed it was okay to work with anyways, and the jar smelled fine. Just curious what this means.
Thanks!

More accurately, psilocin. RR

This is the oxidation of psilocin correct?

Hmm okay, thanks RR! However, in terms of trying to adhere to a proper sense of cultivating, should I aim to use the spawn before it gets to that point? Trying to get the gist of why the psilocin formed to cut down on my errant technique.

Bruising isn't psilocin oxidation but is caused by possibly related compounds/enzymes. It happens and can signal a loss of moisture content. I've seen some PE Mycelium that blues during aggressive fruiting.

No, just shake and use when it's ready. The bruising is normal and doesn't hurt the mycelium. There's more bluing with cell-lines such as penis envy which are naturally high in psilocin. This is also why PE is so much better fresh, while non-bluing strains are as good dry as fresh.
There are other non-active mushrooms such as some boletes which also bruise blue, so it just shows our understanding of mushrooms is still a work in progress. RR
