I initially said Europe, but later specified the UK. I personally don't know about the rest of Europe or what they call "Asians," because most other countries with the exception of a few speak a different native language.

There's a literal translation for the word 'Asian' in all European languages as far as I know. And as far as I know, the term is usually used to refer to any kind of Asian. The fact that in the UK it is mostly used to refer to Pakistani and Indian is undoubtedly due to their history.

No doubt. I was just responding to that guy who claimed that English people don't use the term "Asian" to describe Western or Southern Asians, simply because "he had a friend from London" and that he himself "has never heard of anybody using that term."
But, I actually remember, me and this same British guy had a very similar conversation like 6 months ago... he was watching some American television and he messaged me and asked me this question: "Howcome in America when you refer to somebody as "Asian," you're talking about Japanese or Korean or Chinese or Vietnamese? We call you guys Orientals, when we use the word "Asian" we are referring to Pakis and Indians mainly."
So then I had to explain to him that the term "Oriental" is considered offensive in America, but I couldn't really give an explanation as to why we don't refer to Middle Easterners as Asian. We mainly just call them Middle Easterners.
I did ask whether this applies to the rest of Europe or only England. But he's in a different time zone, so it might take at least 12 hours to respond.
Random anecdote, but women in Switzerland apparently love and have a fetish for Eastern Asian men.
