From what it looks like to me, Google now has closer ties to the US government, and i would argue - the military industrial complex.
What do you think the implications of this company move are?
What do you see as happening for the government and the company?
Does this effect your view of Google?

I was going to say I'd never heard of this company, but I think I had seen a video of that "bigdog" robot before. I don't know enough about the topic to really speculate on the implications for the future, but engineering wise it looked very impressive.

So does the Pentagon. in fact, Boston Dynamics mostly works on Department of Defense contracts.
These robots will most likely put into a war zone.

Makes me wonder if there will be a day when we fight each others robots, instead of people.

Not anymore, now that they have been bought by Google. Google clearly has other plans.

Yeah, google has been pretty open/upfront about their autonomous car development. This seems like a logical acquisition for that. Google inherited the company AND their patents.

this was google's 8th robotic company they've bought in the last 6 months. I think DARPA is who funds a lot of these robotics projects for future military purposes.

Yes, DARPA has provided much of the funding for these projects.
badchad brings up a good point with the autonomous automobile, however, humanoid and four legged robots don't really have anything to do with the automobile. you can RC a car without those kinds of projects.

How do you know that? do you really think just because Boston Dynamics has been bought by a tech company that they will just cease any robotics projects funded by the government? If anything, things might be a little more streamlined now that Google has oversight of things.

what's so tinfoil about it? the government -the pentagon - has been funding these projects for quite some time. guess what most of their funding goes to? the defense budget. there's nothing tinfoil about it, just how it is.
