Crappy pins open too early

Hey all, I got these 2 pf cakes in SGFC, been in there 3-4 weeks without doing nothing. well, they finally started to pin a few days ago, but the pins look like shit (conical shaped, discolored stems-not good looking pins). They do not abort, rather the tiny veil breaks and the fruit has reached "maturity" at barely a centimeter long! This is uncool. Like I said these have been in fruiting mode for 3 and 4 weeks, so they are looking old. I will prolly chuck em out today (gotta make room for nice bright white cakes that are already pinning!), but just wondered if anyone else has encountered this issue or knew what it might be. Thanks!

One time I got a flush full of fat chodey mushrooms. They basically were a fat dense ball, maybe 1 inch tall, with a cap on it. I really liked them and they looked pretty trippy, more like toadstools or something, wish I had cloned them.

I had a few F+ cakes that took 23 days to pin, and caps opened early too..so i cased the rest and although i still got mushrooms on the smaller side i got a good first flush that only took 1-2 days to pin and got like 30 dry grams from the first and second flush combined from one cased cake. Maybe try casing em if they keep opening prematurely..

Substrate moisture management is the problem here. A cake or other substrate which is too wet or too dry will cause the same phenomenon you're describing. Lift your cakes so you can tell by the weight if they're too wet or too dry. With experience, you'll learn to 'read' the cakes without having to lift them to compare with original weight. RR

Thanks gang sorry for the time lapse. I think RR is right, they feel as heavy and dense as they did a month ago, thinking waterlogged as i suspected. Most of these "fruits" are on the under side of cakes. I always tend to over mist in the beginning when i start up new projects. Anything to do about a waterlogged cake? Like I said I will prolly junk em, I got more coming every week! Thanks guys!
