I wanted to show you guys pics of my SAB, I got lucky and the size holes I melted fit cd spindles perfectly, I could easily made it into a glovebox, but I don't see the need, check it out://www.shroomery.org/forums/thumbs/13-50/702924265-thumb_image.jpg[/image]

Here's another pic., just got done making agar I got 40 really decent pours, best ever off of 1000ml of water! I know its a fuzzy pic for some reason, but that's a 1500 ml wine bottle in there and the tote is a 30 gallon, tell me what you guys think!

No thoughts on my SAB thanks for the comments and or constructive criticism 4 days and no one, is it that bad? I was personally pretty proud, I went from about 50%cont. rate on agar to. 0 on the two runs of agar, and then 2 runs of grains No cont. these fuckers most def. work! I had wondered about at least putting some sleeves onto the spindle cases after gluing them in, but I don't see the need absolutely amazing to me as far as how simple this was to make, and it was about 10 bucks plus labor? Way worth the money time and effort IMO

I don't think it's bad at all.  Especially if it lowered your contamination rate; then it's doing the job.
I built mine from a 66qt clear tub with a snap handled lid and some 4" i.d. PVC fittings so I can make it a glove box if I find some gloves that fit my Sasquatch sized paws.  I tried a pair of XL chem gloves on, and I could barely get them on.  No way that would work in a box setting.
See you went with the inverted lid.  I don't really understand that one even though it seems pretty common here.  I use mine right side up so I can mist saturate my equipment with 70% isopropyl and transfer it into the box, which I wipe down with bleach wipes before use, and then mist saturate with 70% after bringing in my materials.  I let it sit with covers on the arm holes for 5 minutes to settle before starting any work.

If anything for a constructive criticism; the plastic around the arm holes can be uncomfortable if you don't have something covering that edge.  Even just a bead of silicone caulk can alleviate that.

Love your SAB.  I need to upgrade mine to a taller one.  I hate hitting the top of the box when I'm tryin to pour the last of my grains into another grain jar... U know?

I've already done a tek where I do use the CD cake box sleeves on 3/3/11.

I drill my holes in the top instead of the side and I have ample room for anything I want to do with it.

Been there. Done that. Not to be crass, but I think that my design is more versatile than yours and this is the first time I've seen this post.

Nice box

I wipe my SAB with disinfecting wipes then run a germicidal UV lamp for 15 mins prior to me starting to work. I also have 0 contamination so far. I was gonna buy a flow hood but I just can't justify it with the results I've been getting so far.

You may find it easier to get rid of the lid and just set the SAB on a towel. The surface is more stable that way because of the bouncy lid.

I only use soap and water in my SAB and alcohol wipe or flame sterilize everything that goes in.

The inside does not need nor will it be sterile. The key is "still air"

Finally, got some feedback on this! The reason I went with the inverted top was this was the tallest box I could get at target, and whenever I inverted the lid it gave me more surface area to work with on the bottom ( which is now actually the top)and it is pretty easy to lift it off and insert materials then after wiping with 70 percent alcohol!  Another one of my thoughts was as it seems as if cont. enter through the top so, I just lift it up and insert one by one, and have found this very effective, as in luckily zero cont. So far! As for my smaller equip. As in scalpel , marker, usually a few paper towels soaked with alcohol, I just insert through arm holes.
As far as the cc, I appreciate this as in some people come across as real j.offs! Not to be an ass , they might just be trying to give c.c., I just maybe take it the wrong way, and yes this sounds as a good idea, as you are correct it is fucking uncomfortable, it feels as your arms are being cut up when I hit the holes! I need to get some silicone for this and for the sfd's I have, as I have spent A LOT of money to get all supplies needed, and I have read you can cut them down and then silicone on your lids, again I am no expert by any means, but this sounds like a good idea as I bought 30 and they only came in reg.mouth lids, and this would stretch them to a large degree, now I have heard you want to use RFD SEALANT, but again maybe this guy was right I hope as I have said I have spent quite a bit, he said almost any silicone will work, you just have to watch the operating temps, I  am thinking it was 250degrees, but have forgot, as at the the time I thought fuck it I will go w/ the RFD as I had plenty of cash on hand, but as Christmas nears that is dwindling. And I see another guy wrote about the importance of hole placement, and I had put thought into that while making it, I put one hole higher than the other and I also put a little more than shoulder width apart, but I have to admit it still Is not the most comfortable!
And to the guy about the towel as a lid, this sounds as if a great fucking idea as the lid def. has drawbacks, it has raised spots and the whole thing is not usable, as it dips down around the edges, this should have been a no brainier as I have fought this example when pouring agar, it works, but this will give me even more ( quite a bit) s. a. To work with. I am so glad u bumped this thread any other ideas or c.c. Is more than welcome! Oh and by the way to the first guy who posted I picked these up at work, they are super heavy duty for chemical work, a little to think IMO, they ate made for working with anhydrous, as in we were working with it as a ref. have a look!
Now my hands aren't the biggest but they are pretty fat and I have ample room, would be willing to part with this and a few other things, the only wedge I have for sure is reishi wedges, but I would love a print of a Choice edible ( as in active) and I hate to ask for that, just would like to get some going, this includes anyone, this would be my first on that note! If not interested, don't let that turn you guys off on me, as if you have read any of my post I am by far no narc. Just would like to get going on some as I feel as though I am ready as in I have done shitloads of eating them, which is besides the point, I just would like some for microscopy work. Anyway on the pic on the gloves if interested anybody, I will try later on cell and the mofo isn't copying it to the post correctly so I am gonna go a head and shoot this out there so everyone knows I appreciate the feedback

Why would you possibly have a thermometer/hygrometer run in to your SAB? Or is that just happen to be sitting there? :mushroom2:

Wow, that was a lot to read.

Admittedly, I never saw that your box is shaped a little bit different than mine and looks taller than wider standing up. That's what you want.

You can do whatever you want of course, but you have the right idea for sure. I would use the 100 count cake boxes. What I did was wind some rubber bands on the inside (without the tabs), and you can adjust them back and forth for the task at hand. Now, on the outside, there are 4 tabs. I put Tyvek sleeves on the outside and rubber banded them right before the tabs and stuck the sleeves through the cake boxes. When you put your hands through the CD sleeves, you must be very quick to get your whole hand through the elastic end of the sleeve being sure to leave a "tunnel" to put your flame sterilized implement through.

My SAB has been in operation for over 2 years and I am always open for suggestions.

Sincerely,
bootster.

As stated in post I just made a pretty big order from sponsor, it was just up there trying it out! Oh and to the guy who sent me to the link of your SAB, now that's more the size box I was looking for, and you are def. right in hole placement, I really thought about were to put mine, and I off centered them as I had read it would make it easier to move around, and it does seem to, but I put my holes to high, and it is uncomfortable to work out of!
And I forgot to tell you how I have been cleaning it, if it has set for very long I will take it into tub and clean with soap and water, but I put Lysol in it mostly and let it sit for at least 10 min. And that seems to be working great, but if I am wasting money , as in of soapy water spray works, I need to give it a shot, I just hate to fuck something up as I know the Lysol works, but I have read this from very respectful people on here also, not saying that you are not i didn't even c
heck and see how long you have been a member, not that that it tells you if the person knows wtf or not, but it can help , mostly you can tell a lot by the way they talk about this subject!
Oh and to the person who wrote about they already came up with the spindles, I did not see that sorry to steal your idea,a d to the person who wrote while typing this I spray the Lysol in box, then  put the spindles in, then pull them and set on top of box as I work, I haven't cut any wholes in the one side YET, I just wipe them with 70% alcohol and put them back in while I am not working in it, then pull them out and set on top of box when I need back in seems to be doing great so far, but I haven't used the fuck out if it yet!
And I know this is a lot to read shoot me a pm and you shall see why, on a side note I appear to have turkey tail mycellium going and enoki, from yesterday I am not sure on that yet though, all I know is I have what appears to be mycellium growing a tad!

I used to buy Lysol and Oust and what-not, but I discovered it to be a waste of money.

The soap and water in a spray bottle is very effective because sterility is not required in a SAB. You just want the air to be still so nothing will drift in to your sterile media.

The reason I use soap water is because it doesn't dry up fast. Contams will stick to the wet surfaces. I don't take much. Also the mist attaches to some of the particles and drags them down where they stick to the damp surface.

Lysol, alcohol, bleach, Oust, or whatever isn't any more affective in this. I wipe my SAB down occasionally, but being anal is not required.

I do G2G and agar work in mine and rarely get contamination. It took me a long time to realize no chemical will ever make up for sloppy technique.

I finally looked at your sign up date and amount of posts, like I said I know that doesn't mean everything but I can tell you know wtf on this, as stated thought not because of your SIGNUP date and amount of post it's  just when you personally have done things And get to knowing wtf, you can tell just from the way the person posts, now I am a fairly noob, but I have done a lot of reading, and am going to try to do another run of WBS tonight, it will be my 3rd shot, here's to hoping it goes ok, I have one fully colonized quart of it and want to spawn it, I read a post where a guy does his straight out of quart jars full of fuel pellets, now if this guy was for real, he has it down pretty good, he said 7 days w/o doing Anything, except for letting his jar fully colonize that wasn't included in the seven days, but after that he pulls the lid off and does nothing but give it sun, within 14 days he claims he has good antlers going, I wonder if that is possible off of just WBS, I doubt it because from the reading I have done, I know they are woodlovers, I think I would have to add that before it would fruit, then again I have never tried or read of anyone doing this, I wonder if possible, I doubt it but don't know!

I bought a product called 5 star L.L.C. It is made to clean keg lines and CO2 lines. I take a large paper towel and pour some of the diluted solution to drench it. I then wipe down the walls and ceilings of the SAB. Now that the walls are done, I lay the flat paper towel out and work off of that. The beauty of this product is that it keeps the walls and ceilings wet on the surfaces for about an hour or so. it's a disinfectant as well.
