Mushrooms becoming specific to one type of agar
    #19272946 - 12/13/13 11:23 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

How long does it take for a species to become specific to one type of agar?

No shit, the way Stamets made it sound it was like you need to switch it up every couple of times, maybe I misunderstood, but I enjoy and have gotten rather good with mya, made up 35 plates last time and zero contaminates, finally! I have been following this recipe to a tea 1000ml water, 20 grams agar, 20 grams malt, and 2 grams yeast then pcing for 45 min.
But last time I used 1000 ml water,15grams agar, 15 grams malt and 1.5 yeast, it worked out fine but looking in the mushroom cultivator it says to only pc for 30 min. Wtf and does anyone see the harm in the reduction of ingredients, I mean hell it worked fine!

So what would be the general thoughts on PC time? 45 min. has always done me well, but if it only takes 30 then I am wasting 15 but wtf is 15 min. I guess?

watch the attitude. you asked the question in the first place...

why ask a question and show complete ignorance towards the person trying to help you.

reducing ingredients/nutrients in agar recipes is actually very helpful when sectoring because it creates a preferred environment for rhyzomorphic myc.

The rest of the sentence where he talks about how he got a contrasting impression from Stamets makes the interpretation that doesn't offend most likely. If he talked about how he already knew that then that would be different.
