Nice way to refute that
What war was more important or bigger in modern history then? Totally the taiping rebellion bro....
Most important war of all time is hard as fuck. The Punic wars, Greek wars with persia, or when the franks beat the moors in southern France ild say.

On this day in 1941 Hitler and Mussolini declare war on the United States and the United States responded by declaring a state of war with Italy and Germany. The conflict is now truly global and few were safe from its impacts.

Day 39:
John Dee:
John Dee was born at a very unique time in history, the start of the Scientific Revolution. A time many ideas such as alchemy we might consider "magic" were being replaced by science. It's pretty strange to think about but until the idea of science wasn't even starting to be pioneered until well into the 16th century. It was in this time that Dee grew up forming a perception of science and magic worlds apart from the norm today.

Born in England on July 13th 1527 C.E., the earlier half of Dee's life was dedicated to math and the sciences. He attended the Chelmsford Chantry School from 1535 to 1542 when he transferred to St. John's College until 1546. It was at this point that his intellectual prowess was recognized and he was made a founding fellow at Trinity College. It was during his time at Trinity College that he would gain the reputation of being a magician which he still holds today. This came about due to clever stage effects used by Dee during a production of Aristophanes' Peace.
After this he spent the late 1540's and early 1550's traveling across Europe both studying and lecturing. Most prestigious of these lectures perhaps was an Algebra lecture Dee was asked to give at Paris University.
But in 1555 things changed for Dee when he was arrested on accounts of "calculating" for having cast horoscopes of both Queen Mary and Princess Elizabeth. Due to the fact the Mary was the Queen his charges were increased to treason in regards to her. Only making things worse John was excommunicated by, Bishop Bonner when trying to explain himself. Although he soon was able to clear his name and actually became a close associate of Bonner.
In 1558 Queen Elizabeth too the throne and appointed John Dee her trusted advisor on everything astrological and scientific. Her trust even went as far as placing him in charge of choosing the day of her coronation. Under Elizabeth from this time through the 1570's Dee served as an advisor to England's exploratory voyages during the Age of Discovery. Using this as inspiration in 1577 John Dee published General and Rare Memorials pertaining to the Perfect Arte of Navigation. In it Dee expresses his desire for a British Empire with a great amount of territory in the New World.
In 1568, Dee wrote the Hermetic work Monas Hieroglyphica, an interpretation of a glyph Dee had DEEsigned. (haha puns) In it he describes how the glyph is meant to express the unity of all creation. Sadly despite how valued this work was by his contemporaries it has been lost to time due to being limited to oral tradition due to secrecy.

Dee's most widely known and influential work was a "Mathematical Preface" to Henry Billingsley's English translation of Euclid's Elements he published in 1570. In it he argues the importance of mathematics siting maths influence over all other sciences. But by the early 1580's he became disillusioned with the progress math and the sciences had shown him and he turned to supernatural ways of gaining knowledge. As an attempt to learn the secretes of nature Dee began communing with Angels, using scryer as conduits.
Dee was not satisfied with the progress he was making with this until he meet a man named Edward Kelly. After meeting Kelly, Dee took Kelly into his services and the two began to devote all of their time and energies communing with Angels. Dee placed so much importance in these communing with Angels because he thought they would teach him "the universal language of creation and bring about the pre-apocalyptic unity of mankind." In 1583 Dee and Kelly began a nomadic life around Central Europe during which Dee met with various important audiences such as Emperor Rudolf II of Hungry and King Stefan Batory of Poland about the angles.
In 1587 during a "spiritual conference" in Bohemia Kelly told Dee that the Archangel of Uriel had ordered that the two men share their wives. Dee went through with it but broke off all communication with Kelly immediately after and moved back to England with his family in 1589. Queen Elizabeth granted Dee the title of Warden of Christ's College, in Manchester England, in 1595. A famous story of Dee's comes from here when he is asked to help with the demonic possession of seven children. Only to greet the situation with a great amount of apathy.
Still remaining warden, Dee left Manchester to return to London in 1605 until his death in either early 1608 or 1609 at the age of 82. Dee died an astronomer, astrologer, advisor, geographer, occultist, navigator, magician, and one of the greatest and learned minds seen during his time. We don't know his exact date of death due to the fact that both the parish registers and John Dee's gravestone are missing. An honorary plaque was placed inside the Church of the district Dee died in in 2013.

On this day in 1943 a public show trial of four German war criminals gets underway in Kharkov. The Germans tell the court of the mass killing apparatus the Germans have been using including the use of "gas vans" to gas Soviet citizens. These men are all found guilty and executed four days later. Word has reached the West that the Germans are undertaking a program of genocide against Jews, Gypsies, mentally ill people and political prisoners. The stories are so hellish that nobody wants to believe this is really happening. Western governments all discount the news.

The Disaster of Curalaba
On December 21, 1598, governor Martín García Oñez de Loyola traveled to Purén leading only 50 men. On the second day they camped in Curalaba without taking protective measures. The Mapuche people aware of their presence, with their cavalry led by Pelantaru and his lieutenants, Anganamón and Guaiquimilla, with three hundred men, shadowed his movements and made a surprise night raid. Completely surprised, the governor and almost all of his soldiers and companions were killed. This event was called the Disaster of Curalaba by the Spaniards. It involved not only the death of the Spanish governor, but the news rapidly spread among the Mapuche and triggered a general revolt, long-prepared by the toqui Paillamachu, that destroyed Spanish camps and towns south of the Bío-Bío River over the next few years. (thought i posted this last night)
