there is NO way that the US gave the most!!!!!
Look, here's how it works. There is such a thing in discussions as "burden of proof". You are the one who made the claim that the US gave the least of all the Western countries, therefore it is your responsibility to support that claim. It is not my responsibility to disprove it.
Let me describe to you how it is done. Go to Google, type in "foreign aid", then hit the "search" button. You will see a list of sites with information on foreign aid. Check a few to find one which contains a list of foreign aid by country. Then provide the link for us, as well as a brief extract of the information supporting your claim.
For example --
http://www.globalissues.org/TradeRelated/Debt/USAid.asp?so=d2002#oda
The US government alone in 2002 gave 12.9 billion. Japan's government was second at 9.22 billion.
Private contributions from Americans were at least 34 billion. Note that 34 billion is equal to the combined governmental contribution of the next eight countries on the list. Here's the top ten from 2002 --
1) US 12.900 2) Japan 9.220 3) Germany 5.359 4) France 5.182 5) UK 4.749 6) Netherlands 3.377 7) Italy 2.313 8) Canada 2.013 9) Sweden 1.754 10) Norway 1.746
As a side note, I deliberately chose a site which is critical of the "small" amount of American taxpayer money spent on foreign so I would not be accused of "cherry-picking" a Libertarian-biased site to suit my agenda. The authors of that site want the US to give even more than they are already.
Note that this site was last updated before Bush's announcement of the 15 billion African AIDS program (which is in addition to the normal annual aid amount), so perhaps when they next update it they will not be so critical. Somehow I doubt it.
Dude, I helped you out this time -- this is effort you could (and should) have expended yourself. Next time you make a bogus claim, don't ask others to disprove it. Do your homework.
and if wrong I will admit it
That's nice.

On a related note...
Bill Gates gives 51 million to NY schools
Given, he should have given some money a bit closer to home considering the school funding crisis that is happening in Wash, Ore and Cali. .. but, I thought this was interesting. Of course, in the public's eyes Bill Gates equals Microsoft and this is great publicity, but its a substancial gift, none the less.
I always wonder why these folks dont give anonymous contributions.

Maybe they would if they didn't have to deal with the rabid anti-business sentiment of the left? Of course the leftist always crow about how they are so generous (or want to be generous) with money confiscated from others...
