Without the influence of the abrahamic religions the western world would have never fallen into the post-Roman mess in the first place, you can try to justify that intellectual plague all you want but as far as I'm concerned you're a part of the problem

Ignorant bigots run around causing problems for everyone else, and they get away with it because too many people don't have the balls to draw a line.

If there wasn't influence from abrahamic religions then there would have been some other system of control and oppression in its place to push us into  the "post-Roman mess"

 agree to disagree then?

have a good day, sir!

Unfortunately I'm going to agree with you here. :frown:  Doesn't justify the effects of these religions however.

The recorded history of Catholicism is at my disposal, from the burning of Alexander's libraries well on to the Inquisition. What evidence is there that another anti-intellectual institution would have sprung up and into power if christianity did not?

I have a cold and will not be having a good day, so pooh on yours

One of my best friends is turning into a no-brain christian. Like believing the end is near and shit.
His father is the cause of this; he believes literally every story in the bible. Mind you that his father has been like real psychotic. He thought he was a profit.

My friend doesn't even know the bible well. He gets all his 'information' from these stupid youtube video's. He always looks for approval of his faith and never for opposite opinions/facts.
I've said it a few times but he never seems to THINK about my arguments or he gets angry.

He does however take shrooms now and then. It has been like 3 times on a low dose for him. Do you think that one heroic dose of shrooms/acid might change his mind in a way that make him at least think about stuff instead of blindly believing all that crap'?

I can't stand that my friend is slowly being brainwashed by this nonsense...

If you are his friend you will remain his friend no matter what he thinks, believes, or does. If your friendship is based on some superficial similarities rather than a deep caring about each other you will go on your way, like most people do with so called "friends" when they change a bit.

I really care about him, we've known each other for a long time. I'd just really like to see him more openminded/critical because I think it will improve his life.

Believing every story in the bible literally can't be good for anyone.

If my friend reads ,studies and understands(read between the lines) the bible himself ,I would have far more respect for his believes.

Generally I don't argue with my acquaintances on their beliefs, even if I think less of them for it. Christianity is a curse to the individual and society, but one has to cure themselves

Does it matter what you hate? The facts remain, with the fall of Rome came the power of the church with its anti-intellectual agenda. Again from the burning of Alexander's libraries, the burning of the Academy, and two-thousands years of worse (continuing now).

There were systems of writing throughout Europe before the 'church'.

:doublefacepalm:

If you're unable to argue history, we can argue the present. From the anti-birth control movements to the anti-evolution movements, christian anti-intellectualism is alive and well.

I'm agreeing.  Humans are the problem and they will create conflict with something else if you were to take Christianity away.

However looking at history is a very good way to understand what's happening and going to very likely continue happening in your life now.  It's rare that we can learn from others mistakes but looking at history gives you at least a chance.

Humans are corrupt without the abrahamic religions, total war existed as far back as Homer and the Vedas, political corruption existed before Cicero, and cults stretch back into the dawn. Regardless as far as I know there hasn't been a single entity bearing as much anti-progressive weight as the umbrella of abrahamic religions, or even close. As bad as Ted Bundy was he didn't cause near as much turmoil as Stalin

Yes I agree,  the most negative humans will look to the best tools to accomplish their goals. And don't get me started on politics. :satansmoking:
