why grains clump together due to being sticky
    #19269145 - 12/13/13 02:16 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

what do you think causes this, alot of discussion on multiple threads lately.

heres my thoughts, i think it is simply due to over simmer/boiling.

how did you nail your non sticky grains?

i can literally break my jars up by hand in 10 seconds flat.

i know its not a good practice ill keep doing it til i get stitches, but i dont have to strike my jars that hard.

your thoughts?

i also can do this with or without gypsum

I've also never had any issues with this and I break my jars up against my hand as well. I have just recently switched from wbs to rye berries. The rye berries break apart even easier. Not that the wbs was difficult.

I love working with the rye berries. They're so much cleaner and easier to prep . I'll never go back to wbs. I never simmered my wbs. I just soaked it 24 hours, heated on the stove until right before boil, and drain. I have found that I have to simmer rye berries for about 10 minutes to get the results I want
