Anyone know any good ones? I am very interested in this subject but I know its confusing because there were many different tribes with a variety of different spiritual practices. I read the book "Lame Dear" which was written by a Sioux medicine man (colorful character btw) and loved it. Anyone know of more books like this?

I can recommend four books:
Hard to find (but available used at the amazon.com marketplace): The Autobiography of a Winnebago Indian by Paul Radin Touch the Earth: A Self Portrait of Indian Existence by T.C. McLuhan
Still in print: Blackfoot Physics by F. David Peat Native American Wisdom edited by Kent Nerburn and Louise Mengelkoch (which is basically a collection of relatively short-length quotations on several subjects, by people from several different tribes)
Like I said, you can get the out of print ones pretty cheaply if you just go to amazon. Enjoy!

Almost forgot, probably the best one of all (that I know of):
Teaching Spirits: Understanding Native American Religious Traditions by Joseph Epes Brown
Brown is considered to be one of the foremost Native American scholars of the twentieth century. I was assigned this book in college and did not sell it back; the writing is excellent and the book is a must.
Caveat: It is very expensive to buy new. You could easily buy it used for about ten bucks.
Happy reading!

I recently picked up Indian Myths & Legends from the North Pacific Coast of North America, which is a translation of a collection of myths first documented and published in german in the late 19th century. It's a pretty raw collection of mostly short stories, but it offers some insight into the myths that survived to that time and the relation of themes and symbols between tribes.

Rolling Thunder by Doug Boyd, details the experiences of the scientific mystic investigator Doug Boyd has with Rolling Thunder, medicine man. I this book. Earth Medicine; the shamanic way to self discovery by kenneth meadows really good principles for shamanism, but I was overwhelmed with the amount of information and definitions. From these books I became really interested in shamanism and the most recent book I've read is based on the traditional hawaiian culture of earth medicine, Urban Shaman by Serge Kahili King.
