What am I dealing with?

Hi everyone,
First off, I would like to commend everyone on building this incredible resource. I have spent countless hours researching and finding inspiration and information with which I began my first attempt at growing.
I know you all hate noobs asking obvious questions, and I fear joining their ranks, but I'm going to ask what I'm finding here. A link to another post would do just fine...
This has been the result of all my attempted cakes/spawn. Purple-ish fuzz that likes both brf and wbs and seems to start from my inoculation points. It will show up around the same time as mycelium, but quickly takes over and stalls growth. I've increased my sterilization levels from boiling, to investing in a pressure cooker, to making a cardboard box 'hood' and it still makes its way into the jar. Now I need to know my enemy to figure out the next plan of attack...
Thanks in advance.

That looks pretty gross. While I can't name your enemy for you, if it always appears at the inoculation points you can be sure it's from your syringe. You should try agar (although with this contam it seems unlikely to work, as it appears to grow much faster than your mycelium), call the provider of your spores and tell them they're heavily contaminated and ask for a refund or replacement, or both.

Thanks vdg,
I find it hard to believe that it would come from the syringe, as I've gone through 4 different ones in my attempts. However, you're right that signs are pointing to it being solution borne...

Well, what are you using for injection ports?

4 nail holes over a layer of dry vermiculite for the pf jars and tyvek over a polyfill plug for the wbs jars. 2 issues I've thought about: my "dry" verm layer doesn't seem very dry after pc'ing even though the jars are covered in foil. Also, I've read that tyvek doesn't keep out all airborne contaminants. ...?
I have silicone drying on some self-healing ports - that will be this weekend's upgrade...

They'll vulcanize faster in the pressure cooker.

Did you make the syringes yourself?
Whoever made syringes probably made them all from the same solution instead of individually like they should be so they all got contaminated with the same thing. If you got them from a vendor I would definitely not order from them again.

They're from a vendor. If/when I re-order I'll go with somebody else. On the plus side, I think I may have isolated some mycelium and it's starting to take off in a dextrose solution.
New jars are in the PC, going to give this self-healing lid business a try.
