Monotub Idea

So I got to thinking about my monotub and how side pins always occur like mad. Now from what I understand about the reasoning for this is that the side wall and the side of the substrate make a sort of 'micro' environment. This micro environment causes a very high humidity in that area, and with the holes being near this area it gets a good amount of FAE as well, a double whammy.
Now my idea is to try and make a micro environment throughout the whole tub by creating a barrier a few inches above the surface of the substrate. I have seen the wax paper idea and such, but I feel like that may limit that amount of FAE that the top of the substrate can achieve. So if you could have the barrier above the holes on the sides but still low enough to maintain the high level of humidity it should work decently well, eh?
Now what would be really cool is something you could adjust so that as the mushrooms grow in height you can raise the barrier so that there is room for them to grow and still receive ample FAE while keeping the humidity high. Or if there was a tub that is only like 12-16 inches high to begin with...
I am just kinda of spit balling here. Ideas, thoughts, comments are greatly appreciated.

yeah a think casing layer as cronicr suggests will do you a world of good in keeping the co2 levels high around the surface of the substrate. this will make pinning much more even.

What do you mean by trash bag liner? On top? If so, like I said, wouldn't that be detrimental to the FAE for the surface.
And what do you suggest as a casing layer for cubes?

no the trash bag goes underneathe your sub, the trash bag will stick to your sub as your sub shrinks eliminating that micro climate, as for a casing layer i use 50/50 peat/verm with a little cc

I'm not saying I dislike the side pins, I think they are great. They just add to the final weight. Yea they are a bit difficult to pick compared to those on the top, but I do not see why so many people are against them.
little cc?

i never use a liner side pins usually come after the first flush and the sub is shrunk enough away from the walls to harvest rather easily, or you can float it with water and it becomes easier to work with
