I think this was a very cool read. I had to learn basic japanese for my martial arts class, and it was super easy. Once you learn to count to ten, you can already count to a hundred.

Oh I know. I was saying numbers were somewhat easy. The language itself is ludicrously hard. My uncle is fluent in mandarin. It took him 5 years of living in china to get it.

Having said that, I also believe in America we have a tendency to believe that the Asian race as a whole is more intelligent than it actually is because of the Asians we are exposed to. As a Chinese person once put it to me, "There are plenty of stupid Chinese people. They stayed in China."

This hearkens to something I tell people who say we don't build houses as well as we used to. We build them better now. The ones that were built poorly back in the day have already fallen down.

Of course I did. Why else would I have come to this kind of argumentation.

It's true. I've met a lot of young and dumb Japanese kids who never went to college, and will probably be working as waiters in restaurants their whole lives.
I remember there was a TV show in Japan (and TV there is nothing like American TV, it's not a bunch of BS and hype to try to get ratings, most of what's on basic TV is news and documentary-style stuff and cooking channels). So some TV interviewers/reporters were going around asking random teenagers and young adults on the streets questions about history, about the world, questions that everybody should know. Questions about World War II, and the Korean War, and who reigned over Edo period, and what province is Kyoto considered a part of, why the Ainu population went extinct, etc.
This is stuff that every common Japanese person should know by the way, it's the equivalent of asking what president was in charge during the Civil War and shit. I was flabbergasted by some of the answers, some of the Japanese kids were like, "What, there was a Korean war? The Japanese people did what to the Ainu people? Who the heck is Yukio Mishima?" (and saying you don't know Yukio Mishima in Japan is like saying you don't know Kafka or Steinbeck.)
Unfortunately, these are the children of modern capitalism. They are too busy paying attention to their cell phones, nightclubs, and fashion rather than paying attention about the arts or literature or history.
However, I should note, that while there ARE dumb Asians in Asia, Asian countries still rank in the top for IQ numbers and grades in math and science. Why do you think all the engineering jobs get outsourced to India and China? http://www.photius.com/rankings/national_iq_scores_country_ranks.html

I'm the best parallel parker. If it were a sport, I would win the gold. People stop on the street to watch me at work.

You could actually drive in Japan very well. You have to squeeze through the tiniest places imaginable and dodge pedestrians like a motherfucker.
