Is this possible? Trying to feed wild mushrooms with hay
    #19262744 - 12/11/13 09:00 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

There are some wild mushrooms here that are great to eat.  They are leucoagaricus barsii.  They occur naturally under a large tree.  I'd like to encourage them to grow, could I harvest a few and then over that spot prepare some wheat straw or cocoa coir in the hopes they would colonize and fruit?  Has anyone tried this before?

Thanks!!

From what I can find it seems they are saprobic (http://shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/bitstream/10603/10043/11/11_chapter%206.pdf; this is the only source I could find that has leucoagaricus habitat and ecology. It doesn't address barsii though in particular) and therefore this should be possible. However, i would suggest that if they are indeed saprobic (and you like em that much), you should just grow your own using the wild stock that you have access to. Its not that hard. I am not that good with agaricus, was just trying to help when you didn't have any answers after an hour. Hope this helps and hope someone more knowledgeable chimes in on this subject. Good luck.

^ yeah

Plus, the mushroom will only be fruiting for 1 season right? I would just attempt to clone it so you can grow it any time of the year lol

(regarding the substrate of what this mushroom eats, do some googling)
