Corrupted by christianity
    #19259365 - 12/11/13 09:52 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

One of my best friends is turning into a no-brain christian. Like believing the end is near and shit.
His father is the cause of this; he believes literally every story in the bible. Mind you that his father has been like real psychotic. He thought he was a profit.

My friend doesn't even know the bible well. He gets all his 'information' from these stupid youtube video's. He always looks for approval of his faith and never for opposite opinions/facts.
I've said it a few times but he never seems to THINK about my arguments or he gets angry.

He does however take shrooms now and then. It has been like 3 times on a low dose for him. Do you think that one heroic dose of shrooms/acid might change his mind in a way that make him at least think about stuff instead of blindly believing all that crap'?

I can't stand that my friend is slowly being brainwashed by this nonsense...

It's likely out of your hands but if you can talk him into that big mondo dose he might end up in the funny farm and then he wouldn't be bothering anyone. :satansmoking:

I think that could be a dangerous gamble. Either it would make him question everything and encourage him to think for himself, or it would attach him more firmly to his beleifs/indoctrination. Or worse...

I've seen people develop messiah/prophet complexes from taking heroic doses.

I think this is his spiritual battle, and it is out of your hands. You can always try to be the voice of reason though, as long as you don't ridicule him, or get too pushy with YOUR views then your relationship might not be strained to the breaking point.

Guide him too the light! :psychsplit:

Certainly sounds like a conundrum. Really it depends on what he means to you as a friend, if you can deal with him being a crazy Christian let him be. If he starts imposing his beliefs on you that's when you gotta worry.

I'd say just try and keep his mind open, be reasonable and chat about it when smoking weed or something. And don't shove your arguments in his face; and don't give him loads of psychedelics hoping to change his mind it might just turn him off them.

Thanks for the advice guys.
At least he is open to some suggestion.
I once got him with this : If there was nothing before God and God created everything, then evil/satan must have been a part of him.

Yeah... do a TMk while he speaks bout his beliefs..

Boys you seem to be so full of hatred, why not just let him be? It'S like this: you can't get it out of them once they're in. You'll just screw their lives. That means you're not his friend anymore. So why even bother? Do you? Then leave him as he chose.

Have you considered maybe you're the one that's wrong?  Accept Jesus as your lord and savior.  You know you want to.

What a friend are you? One who's always right and has the right to decide over your friends' thoughts?

I don't know, the whole thing seems so ... unbelievable. Like the only way to heaven is thru Jesus not thru God. Gay people are sinners and must convert to hetero. God even killed more people then satan. The list goes on and on...

My friend believes that there's some battle going on between "good" and "evil" and that the "bad guys" (illuminati) are a bunch of guys who sold their soul to satan for money/fame/power.
The only thing that I agree with is that the world is fucked over by greedy people and that a lot people are being brainwashed.

Exactly. I say: Let the people be individualists so they can learn what or who they really are as a person and by this redefine the value of quality sozialization.

I'm no huge friend of Evangelical Christianity but this new fad of bashing all of Christianity because of the actions of a few or because it doesn't fit an individual's world view is pretty effing ridiculous. For all of the ills Christians have done, either in the name of their god or the ideology they prescribe to it; the amount of good is completely overlooked and or maligned by a section of society that t ends to be socially and economically privileged enough to not need its message.

But I digress  from that. Your friend has fallen in with a certain sect you don't approve of. It sucks and I totally believe you. I have a friend who is a supposedly "devout" Islamic Fundamentalist and there have been times when I've wanted to punch his face in for some of the things he has said BUT I do not forget that, for its time, Islam provided women with many protections they did not have, helped further the studies of the natural world and Mathematics and that, without its influence, the Western world (the world I am a child of) wouldn't be where it is today.

Just as I don't forget that through Christianity came Gnosticism, Hermetics, various magickal orders, charitable groups, and people like the Quakers who fought against slavery even when their fellow Christians tried to justify it.

So this single-sided view of humanity and  history where "OMGZ the Christianz iz so EV1LLZ!" doesn't make anyone come across as enlightened; just petulant, childish, and willfully ignorant.

And that's straight from a Maenad's mouth.

^I agree with and support this comment.^

I have known some pretty astounding christians in my day. The ones that truly live with their trust in God are every bit as fantastic and fringe as street hippies thumbing their way across country-- they're a damn sight more humble then many of the street hippies I have known too.

I've known other more conservitave christians that were some of the warmest most generous people I have ever met. So, they aren't all ignorant bigots and assholes. The one thing in common they all had though was they all studied the bible for themselves, they didn't let anybody spoon feed them the message, or allow themselves to become indoctinated.

I still maintain that this entire situation is out of your hands. But if your friend starts spouting some crazy fucked up shit chanllenge him to look it up for himself and come to his own conclusion. And by looking something up I don't mean finding one passage that supports his crazy fucked up shit. The fantastic christians I have known all unanimously agree that the messages in the bible need to be read in context (cultural, historical linguistical), as well as cross referenced with other passages.
