A walk in the forest....
    #1926033 - 09/17/03 07:18 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

I was walking through the park, just happened to have my camera, and stumbled across a few different types of mushrooms. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify these pics?

All of these mushrooms are growing in a coniferus forest this one appeared to be growing on buried wood.

This one was growing on wood chips used for bedding at a playgroundthumb

[edit: i fixed your image tags for you. be sure to place them on thier own lines and to enter the entire image tag blocks. peace, concrete.]

For identification purposes, it's generally more valuable to see the underside of the cap than the top. We need to know things like the gill attachment, spore color, what the stem looks like, if there's a ring on the stem, and stuff like that.

As wild guesses:

I think the first one is an Amanita. It's similar to Amanita caesarea, but you should assume it's very poisonous until we can be certain otherwise. If they are, then they weren't growing from buried wood, but as mycorrhizal partners with the trees nearby. The gills and stem should be yellow to orangish in color, there should be a same-colored ring on the stem, and there should be a white cup of tissue around the base of the stem. Both the ring and the cup of tissue (volva) are fairly fragile in many specimens, so they may have fallen off. The gills should be entirely free from the stem.

The second one looks like Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus). They should have been growing directly from the wood. The gills should be very pale in color and run all the way down to the base of the mushroom.

Let us know.

Happy mushrooming!
