This is a situation where a re-enforced door wouldve done a lot more to defuse the situation then pulling out a 44 like the lone ranger wouldve.

If someone besides the three robbers had a gun, chances are that OP would be writing about her friend who died in a shoutout tonight.

Its obvious you're trolling but its morally justified to just hope they won't murder you and your friends?

I'm not trolling. Another gun in that situation would have made it much more dangerous. It wouldn't have stopped them from murdering anyone. You gun nuts don't really think these things through. In a situation like OP described, having all the weapons on one side is WAY better than both sides being armed. They had the element of surprise. An armed robber doesn't want to use his gun. A gun on the victims side would not have prevented what occurred. It could have precipitated a shoot out.

No, if someone else had a gun and actually knew how to use it everyting would've been cool, most robbers don't really want to kill anyone and they're terrible shots.

Right. Robbers don't want to use their guns. So... Don't give them a reason.

As koods pointed out, the robbers had the element of surprise. Good luck shooting them as they burst through the door when they burst in by surprise. Most people don't stand facing the door with a drawn pistol waiting for an attack...

So just hand over everything you own, self defense is too risky in your opinion.

It seems you have resigned yourself to always being a victim to criminal activity.

I think most smart people would rather lose some possessions that can easily be bought again than be dead as a result of a shoot out.

You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em...

Three guys get the jump on you with guns drawn, probably a good time to realize how much more value your life has than whatever material shit they want to take.

For the record, I had an acquaintance murdered recently in a very similar situation--him and several friends held up in his home at knife point--he alone decided to fight back, he alone was stabbed--luckily the thieves took off without hurting anyone else (witnesses).

Most would be thieves aren't looking to come homicide as well.

Idk, I don't even have any possesions for someone to take, but I do not like feeling like a bitch, guarantee I'm atleast shooting them when they turn around to leave.

newborn – we are tender and weak
in death – we are rigid and stiff

living plants are supple and yielding
dead branches are dry and brittle

so the hard and unyielding belong to death
and the soft and pliant belong to life

an inflexible army does not triumph
an unbending tree breaks in the wind

thus the rigid and inflexible will surely fail
while the soft and flowing will prevail

I agree, material possessions can be replaced, and I have no issue giving away my wallet if my safety is guaranteed, but there are NO guarantees when violent threats are part of the stealing process.

If someone is attempting to enter my environment for reasons of theft or any other reason (property and home), they will be confronted with a armed person that has the advantage, some things are worth defending and that includes my property and my family, I don't trust criminal thugs.

Safety is never guaranteed. It's called taking calculated risks.

In the situation described in the OP, complying held less risk than resisting.

You seem to be conveniently ignoring the fact that, in this situation, the thieves got the jump on the folks in the home. From the OP description, I don't believe they were sitting around with guns on their laps--on the lookout for intruders--when shit went down.

We are not just discussing the OP's specific case, we are speaking in generalities, every situation is different.

If you want to hang your hat on how the OP's scenario proves that having a gun for self-defense is a bad idea, that is weak.

not neccesarily

All of the cctv videos I've seen a single person defending himself against multiple armed robbers generally involve the robbers getting the fuck out of there as fast as they can, sometimes popping off a few shots in the general direction of the person they are robbing.
