My point was that "dying young" is not really what the study was studying at all, so the headline "A New Study Suggests That People Who Don't Drink Alcohol Are More Likely To Die Young" is not backed up by the study at all. People who actually died young never made it to the 55 year cutoff.

you just said it yourself the study was over a 20 year span

we could we say that people that get past that age are more likely to live longer lives

You either
a) threw up on the hosts girlfriend
b) sat in the corner and chain smoked cigarettes
c) never left the house
d) all the above
so he threw up on his own girlfriend?

Yeah they were 55-65 when it started, so by the end they were 75-85 or dead. The title of the study is "Late-Life Alcohol Consumption and 20-Year Mortality."
But yes, it does appear to show that at least beyond that age you're likely to live longer if you're a moderate drinker. You can only read the first page without paying but it sounds like they tried to control for things like prior drinking problems and health problems as well as other social and demographic factors.

Or a drinking addiction that they finally conquered.
